Well, the HSU VTF-15H is barely OVER 1k shipped, so its not technically in your price range, but i think it merits consideration. I'm absolutely in love with mine.

This is why you don't buy subwoofers based purely off of the specs. The sub you are replacing is a $400 sub. Yeah its a 10" but it is probably a much better designed subwoofer than the PL-200. Yes, a 12" sub is better than a 10" sub...
