Thanks, Mike -- eBay was on my list to eventually check out but it hasn't been that high of a priority just yet and I'm still inclined to figure out how to break into the remote to see if cleaning the contact areas will mitigate whatever is causing the nonresponsive behavior.
Sent a PM to mickinct several days ago with a query about this, but have not yet received any response -- he may not want to mess with the handheld remote control for units he takes in for repair, just the main box. The remote control for my Panasonic DMR-E85HS has one button which has become less and less functional over the past few months, and the button in question is the forward side of the variable-speed scan function (reverse side works normally). Pressing really...
After having used a Panasonic DMR-E85HS for the past decade (and getting it repaired a number of times in the interim), I've finally acquired one of the Magnavox 537 units and have now integrated it into my AV system while the Panny continues to work in parallel. As I gain experience with the Mag 537's functions and methods for accomplishing the record-edit-dub process I know so well for the Panny, I'm struck by how inelegant and clunky the user interface of the Mag is by...
KXAN is owned by Lin -- KEYE is owned by Sinclair.
Has anyone else along the northern Williamson-southern Bell County market boundary between Waco-Temple-Killeen and Austin experienced reception problems over the past couple of weeks besides me? I'm located in NE Williamson County near Circleville and generally have had good-to-excellent reception of most broadcast stations in both markets (except a few really low-power ones) both before and after the digital switchover in 2009. However, not long after the big winds of...
RE: Cool TV -- See my post #6706 above which referred to a response from Mark Dunham, the KXAN Chief Engineer, to my query about their signal and 54.2 going dark, a portion of which I'll cut-and-paste for all to see: "Finally, we turned off Cool-TV last Friday so don’t work too hard to find it. Our contract expired with them and we are looking at other possibilities for 54.2." Over the last 2 days, nearly all of the channels I was having difficulty in receiving from both...
Not surprising the signals are strong and steady, Jerry -- if you're near the Pennybacker Bridge, you must be no more than 2 miles from Mt. Larsen where many of the antenna(s) are located. I'm more like 32+ miles according to TVFool's analysis. I tweaked the antenna orientation today and had both my GPS and a compass with me -- the GPS needed new batteries and I hadn't recalibrated it so I used the regular compass to set the azimuth near 223 magnetic as indicated by...
Has anyone else around the area been experiencing significant OTA reception problems over the past week? I live in NE Williamson County (near Circleville between Taylor and Granger) and after the big winds last week torqued my antenna around I reset its orientation and dogged down the u-bolt nuts a bit, but I've since experienced some real up-and-down, in-and-out signal strength levels for a number of the formerly reliable Austin stations (and all of the...
Probably worth sending a message to mickinct about it to see if he's familiar with that failure mode, and what its likely problem source might be -- if it needs repair and you want to salvage its use, he's your man to properly take care of whatever ails it (this from personal experience with my E85H).
They had apparently discontinued the service in your particular area a bit earlier than elsewhere from the time stamp of your initial posting. It was a nice feature, and while there is still some information available through the PSIP functions that isn't as extensive or able to look as far into the future as the original TVGOS function.
