I suggest you stay away from any TC-P42UT50 still floating around out there. I had two. One had a cracked screen which was not Panasonic's fault. But the second one had a terrible 1" line of purple pixils 1" from the top of the screen...
Unbelievably, this latest TC-P42UT50 had a flaw, Panasonic suggested, in the panel. It took about fifteen minutes for a band of purple pixils to appear about one inch below the top of the screen. The pixils came and went in changing...

TC-P42UT50 is now unavailable on Amazon. I bought one; now I hope the screen isn't cracked, again.
Update on the 42". Knew it was too good to be true. Delivered yesterday with a cracked screen. I am bummed.
Was just billed today for a 42"UT from Cost Central in Pennsylvania. Found it through the CNET review page on 6/25. Its on the way and I'm psyched to have found one of the last factory fresh 42s on the planet.
I'm confused. My old HD-DVD is connected to my pre HDMI Harman Kardon 435 through 5.1 component and digital audio output cables. I see that there is no digital audio/pcm optical jack on the 380. Does this mean I can not get 5.1 sound...
Thank you jrcorwin. As a plasma guy I would never buy any LCD on the market today. The very best of them still, to my eyes, produce subtle but ultimately unwatchable action blurring.
