I know this is an old thread, but many of us with these TVs are really starting to run into these problems at this point in their lifecycle (not to mention the assortment of other problems they have!) I wanted to add that this worked for me as well I used PB blaster instead of WD-40. To be safe, I just sprayed a tiny amount on the spindle and wiped it with a clean paper towel. I didn't want to risk putting any in the hole for fear that it could ruin it. I don't know...
