My local Costco had a handful of them for $679. A lot cheaper than I had seen online.
Has anyone heard or know anything about the new EW-100? I need something small and Energy discontinued some of it's smaller subs and I am assuming replaced them with this.

I agree with trying a direct HDMI connection to the TV or a new cable. Also you could try limiting the HDMI signal to your TV to just video but that's if your AVR sends both signals, I know some might only pass through video. These...
I have been looking at a PRO-101FD because there are some left at my local BB. I don't have cable/SAT so I only watch movies and game a little. How crucial is getting it pro calibrated vs. DIY?

I actually saw a Bic Acoustech H100 on Overstock.com for half retail cost.
I think if I had a bigger budget then this would be less of an issue. I just don't know if I will get the return from a $200 sub unless I found a great deal on a more expensive sub.
