Wow, old thread! I did use MOCA with Comcast for a time and it worked out well. I did buy a house last year, however, and now have a hard wired Gigabit network.
Well, you've decided already then. I would have suggested a Passive 3D set. I think the "full HD" tradeoff is worth the ease of having a bunch of friends over to watch Avatar 3D without having to invest a couple hundred more in glasses....
The problem is definitely that wireless connection you are using. You need to upgrade the connection in some way, whether that is a new Wireless N router, a set of MoCA or Powerline Adapters, or running ethernet cable.

I have very similar hopes for a media streamer, and have been looking at it myself for some time. I only recently retired my Boxee Box (which is still the BEST in terms of the automatic scraping you talk about - but can't handle HD...
It's funny, I barely used my Boxee for anything outside of local playback anymore. There was a time when it was my primary Netflix box too, but then the PS3 Netflix overtook it in functionality.
And I'm still shocked it never got Hulu...
