What do you think ultraviolet is ?(or iTunes digital copies, those are all DRM video systems)
You might to take a look at xpenology which is a port of synology os to x86 pc's. It's much more user friendly than most of those NAS OS.
Not having a movie riddled with DRM for one. Handbrake or rather x264 encodes from BD sources are typically better quality than any digital download.
The box itself has no means of viewing media from local sources, but a good software app player for this could make it an ideal all in one for those looking to combine online and offline media. Effectively an AppleTV with the means to play media from a NAS/PC which is what a lot of people are interested in. Plex is on it but not everyone runs Plex media server, though you can view any media you upload to Amazon Cloud drive on it. It does also come with a USB port too. I...
The media industry is moving away from physical media, DVD's are pretty old hat and the most popular media players are internet streaming media ones. As others have said little reason to include DVD codecs that aren't used because Internet media is overwhelmingly H.264 video with AAC/MP3 or AC3 5.1 for surround audio. So called "real media players" are a declining niche these days, even WD knows it which is why they did the WD Play model. The media player market is...
Does formatting the drive into EXT3 help ? You could plug the USB HDD into your PC, download Gparted and boot that then format the USB drive into EXT3 file system, plug it back into the Asus and fingers crossed no more problem. Alternatively use linux live usb creator, this gives you a full working linux os running from USB flash drive, download Ubuntu ISO image then use this on it and boot. In Ubuntu search for disk utility that is their disk formatting tool and that...
Supposedly the Intel NUC Core i5/HD5000 model has 4K output and will play 4K content running XBMC but linux is required. You can play 4K content in XBMC on any PC but hardware decoding is tricky, depending upon the underlying hardware, using latest beta of XBMC 13 (gotham) and switching the video acceleration method to DXVA-HD mode (expert mode settings) helps if the hardware is up to the task. There are going to a whole bunch more of cheaper (at least half the price)...
Hard to pin down why it's doing that, you could ask on the Mezzmo forums and if the program generates a log file maybe the developers can shed more light on whats going wrong. Serviio does make log files and the devs sometimes are able to see the cause. You could try using Serviio and see if the problem repeats. Could be the files, could be wrong LG profile in use on mezzmo, could be a problem with the gig lan nic in the server ?
Buy AppleTV's and and use iTunes, that's the only remotely consumer friendly way. The second easiest option is Google Play Movies and a Chromecast dongle. You can't use Plex to stream DRM media and all services use DRM infested solutions, the so called cross platform movie industry way is through a system called Ultraviolet and that method is a total mess. P.S. you cannot purchase Blu-ray downloads, only compressed HD copies.
windows media center is a dead end so I think thats a bad idea to be jumping on at this point in time, it may still work but there is no development any more. An alternate option is go buy Roku 3 set top boxes, then install two things on the PC, NextPVR (for TV) and Plex media server. The Roku have a Plex client so by installing Plex media server on the PC you will get a nice GUI for all your streaming media, Plex on the PC will convert everything on the fly (if not...
