There's a big difference between viewing something they're piping into your home on the back of another subscribed service (i.e. getting free locals when you're internet only) and going out and hooking up free cable from the street line....

I spoke to a Verizon tech and he said the locals were unencrypted. The Dual also has a ClearQAM tuner so maybe Verizon does things differently by region? I'll post my results after the March 2nd install.

I'm in the process of switching from Comcast to FIOS now that they've expanded into my area. The package with both is internet + local channels only. With comcast I simply split the cable ahead of the modem and connected to the HDHomeRun...
You want a screen with no excess features? Get a projector! However, just because a TV has Smart apps, doesn't mean you have to use them. For me Vizio is good for secondary locations as they include amazon prime.
