You want a screen with no excess features? Get a projector! However, just because a TV has Smart apps, doesn't mean you have to use them. For me Vizio is good for secondary locations as they include amazon prime.
I certainly agree that a dedicated HTPC for each TV location is no longer necessary but I do like having a central one connected to my main viewing area. For other locations streaming devices can suffice for the most part, especially if you have smart TVs as well. At the main TV, I need:
- some light gaming (emulators)
- Amazon Prime (through XBMC plugin)
- DVR and Live TV capability (WMC)
- music server functionality (Logitech Squeezebox server)
- file storage - this I...
I have an Asrock H77M and it has been great. Easy to setup with a straightforward BIOS, gigabit ethernet, USB 3 and very good price. There are plenty of bad reviews for most products but going by the power users on this board (assassin) Asrock is a popular choice.
Great work on this plugin. It installed without issue and accepted my login details. I can browse categories and play content. However, there is an issue - when a show is playing, there is a small window that doesn't go away in the bottom left corner of the screen. Also, the WMC controls hide the plugin controls so I can't try to force full screen, or use the on-screen controls. I'm using WMC on Win7 64bit. Thanks!
Interesting I haven't heard that before. At any rate, I've only ever had 1 drive failure and that was after about 8 years of heave usage including a trip across the Atlantic in a cargo container. If I was going to rip a new external drive apart I think filling it first and running a diagnostic would be enough to ensure it wasn't a dud right out of the gate.
