What is the volume scale of that Denon? My HK's go from like -50 to +10. Is +10 near the maximum usable volume from that receiver? If so, you are likely distorting the signal from the receiver to the speaker and that can blow speakers.

I would suggest looking into the Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers. Only marginally more cost than the Energy Take 5 but much better sounding.
Another very satisfied 3490er here as well. OP don't feel too bad, I am willing to bet that most of us had to do some digging to us the Optical or Coax inputs. I no I did.
