Yes, Yet Another Turd in the (Home Theater) Punchbowl Sound bitter? It should. The past 10 years or so has been nothing but DRM/IP-control related issues affecting product quality (watermarked audio), performance (Slow BluRay operation due to DRM and constant required firmware updates) and reliability (HDMI DRM handshaking causing connection/device instability), to name only a few of the issues. Actually started a little earlier with SCMS on MD/DAT.Makes you yearn for...
Receiver makers that include Dolby HP and/or DTS-H:X ought to come up with a standard for integrated wireless headphone transmitters built into them, so the market can be flooded with standardized receivers/integrated wireless headphones from all makers.
Also, why hasn't DTS flooded their site/web/Youtube with DTS-H:X demos with obvious soundfield effects?I can't easily locate DTS-HX demos in Google/Youtube.
EXACTLY why I place ZERO value on these included-code-premium-content "extras" .This shoulda been a straight DRM-free download from Amazon or elsewhere with the passcode.
...or they could simply specify on the disc package:"The tracks on this disc are mixed/processed for on-ear headphone use. For best effect, do not use speakers or in-ear headphones with these tracks"But that would be too technical and complicated for J6P. You don't need to address/satisfy every use case.Just specify the use cases you do.
Yeah- what he said (I hadn't read the thread before my rant)
As a long time HT/HTPC/CD/music enthusiast- back to HiFi VHS and LD- I think this trend towards App-restricted/controlled content is wrong. Can you save the DTS-H:X wav/audio file to burn a CD? I hope they make the app work in the Chrome browser so you don't need an iOS/Android device, i.e. use the browser on a stock PC. I received the MoS steelcase CD set this week. Why didn't they simply add a third disc in the box with a DTS-H:X processed stereo CD? No technical...
I like to use fanless cards in my HTPC/media PC's. This is the only fanless GT620 I'm aware of- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121713&IsVirtualParent=1 Only fanless GT520 I could find http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121475
For the noobs- http://flac.sourceforge.net/ FLAC is the FOSS lossless compressed audio format. Great objectivist-oriented audiophile discussion forums- http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/ http://www.head-fi.org/f/46/computer-audio
I don't recommend using the base Ubuntu with Unity. I do recommend staying with Ubuntu-compatible distros, though, because the sum of all Ubuntu compatible distros (Ubuntu+Kubuntu+Lubuntu+Xubuntu+UbuntuStudio+Dreamstudio+Mythbuntu+XBMCbuntu+MInt Cinnamon+Mint Mate+ Mint DE + Mint XFCE + Mint KDE + Puppy Precise + many others) means the best chances of support and the latest drivers/binaries for the apps you want. While it's trendy to bash Ubuntu/Canonical and tout the...
