The AVP is just a pre/pro; you'll need an amp. I have the AVR600. It sounds great. The Marantz is good, but won't come close to the AVR600.
DLPs will come closest to the plasma pop look. Try the Runco LS-5. It is essentiaay a renamed Planar PD8500,; you'll find numerous posts here under the Planar PD8500
You will have better luck on this ? at www.avforum.co.uk
Forget B&K. Went out of business. Bought by another company. Future uncertain. Promised upgrade boards never made.
The Planar PD8150 is essentially the same as the Runco. (Planar bought Runco.) You'll find a lot of reviews on it. See www.ecoustics.com
back to $115
Runco LS-5 (formally Planar PD-8150) DLP proj. Highly reviewed (see for both models). $7,000 list, but can be had for less. Call Jason! Incidentally, I has a SIM2 D80E, and the Runco/Planar killed it.
I view ALL of my movies with the cap ON. With it off, I was a nervous wreck, checking color balance, depth of contrast, video proc. screw ups, etc. With the cap on, I am now completely relaxed when viewing anything.
Oops!
Take a look at the brand new AVR300. Less $. Very similar to 500, plus has preamp outs (i think)_ which the 500 lacks.
