The annual CEDIA convention is a trade show that’s all about custom-install and custom-integration products. The latest speaker offering from Paradigm is the Decor Custom Collection, and it fits right into that mold. The new system addresses the need for stylish, low profile, high-performance speakers that can blend seamlessly with flat-panel TVs. And, because TVs don’t all come in the same size, the speakers can be ordered in custom dimensions with a hyper-rapid turnaround of only three days.
Unsurprisingly, custom sizes and sleek design and high performance all come at a cost… MSRP for one of these speakers starts at $1499 goes up depending on configuration and size.
Now, let’s look at what the speakers are all about. First of all, speaker grills are acoustically transparent and stretched plus trimmed by hand. The option exists to customize them to match the exact dimensions of the TV, including accommodating any bumps due to logos or IR sensors.

The speaker enclosures are made from a combination of extruded aluminum and MDF (for the baffle). The speakers are only 2 inches deep, including the grill. Paradigm says that the Decor series speakers are some of the slimmest available.
These speakers use satin anodized aluminum dome tweeters that feature a tweeter lens that acts as a phase plug as well as offers protection against poking fingers and bumps. The mid/bass are made of anodized aluminum and feature rubber surrounds. In order to achieve an extremely low profile, the speakers utilize a specially designed driver motor that features a 1.5 inch voice coil and ultra-shallow extruded aluminum heatsinks.
These speakers have an integrated “Wire Management Channel” that is designed to allow the speaker to sit almost completely flush against the wall as well as avoid wire pinching. Furthermore, recessed speaker terminal connections allow for a flush fitting installation.
Paradigm has set up a Design Studio website that walks you through the process of measuring, configuring, and ordering the product. Interestingly, consumers can order this directly instead of going through a custom install outfit. The Decor Custom Collection from Paradigm will begin shipping in fall of 2017.
