Pioneer Channel AV Receiver VSX-1023-K

Don't buy VSX-1023

Hut23

Pros: Lots of HDMI inputs

Cons: No upconverster, no support for processor, no audio outputs.

I bought this receiver because I was so happy with my original VSX-5000.  That receiver had everything I could desire at the time.   The VSX-1023 is a real disappointment.  It includes input support for composite video and for component video, but there is no upconverter.  These video modes can't be output via HDMI. I'm wondering who's bright idea that was.  Having...

Yamaha HTR-5640 6-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver

“First off I would like to point out that this receiver came with a home theater in a box kit that included a 6.1 speaker setup which explains the high purchase price for this mid range receiver. This receiver features 6.1 discrete and matrix modes, digital and analog surround inputs, 24 dsp presets, 2 switched AC outlets, A/B switch, and a composite/ component video switcher. The best features...” --ikkuranus

Insignia NS-AV511 Home Theater Receiver

“I was looking for a receiver to replace my $99 HTIB that I had for 10 years.  I got myself a nice LCD TV, and decided the Home Theater needed to start a revamp.    I wasn't looking for anything super fancy, something sub $200 that would handle 5.1 and HDMI passthru were my only requirements.    I managed to find this on Best Buy's website as an in store close out. ...” --Noah Perkins

“This receiver has a solid sound and, paired with decent speakers, sounds awesome. I have it in my living room and it mainly serves to power my video setup so that my family can enjoy TV, DVDs, etc. Zone 2 is set up to provide audio to speakers in other parts of the house. In general this works fine. - Occasionally, the left channel goes out on Zone 2. I've isolated this to the receiver by...” --mswope63

Pioneer Elite Sc-55 Sc55 9.1-channel 3d Ready A/v Receiver

Pioneer Elite Sc-55 Sc55 9.1-channel 3d Ready A/v Receiver

The SC-55's Class D3 9-channel amplifier is the most powerful amplifier of any multi-channel A/V receiver Pioneer has ever produced. Keeping the new audio formats of the Blu-ray Disc format in mind, Class D3 takes high-resolution multi-channel audio to a whole new level of immersive performance Rated at 140 watts x 9 channels is a lot of power but is not the whole story. Where the SC-55...

Denon AVR-X4000 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver

“I purchased the x4000 to replace my onkyo 809, merely for the fact of gaining the highest Audyssey XT32 (as compared to the multeQ XT). What a difference the XT32 makes...My FR was MUCH flatter..and the sub EQ was phenominal. Sounds were much more crisp and not muddied by virtue of the XT32 present in the Denon....also it was able to reduce many ringing due to reflections in my untreated room...” --Brian Fineberg
