I'm pleasantly surprised

review by isabels_dad

Seldom am I impressed enough to write a review but I have to say that I was plesantly surprised at how easy the setup was for this Denon AVR-E300. I was replacing my Denon AVR-989 due to needing a receiver with a shallower depth to fit in a new location (wife's idea - enough said). Since I no longer needed the multi-zone capability of the AVR-989 the downgrade from a 7.1 to a 5.1 receiver wasn't an issue for me. What can I say, everything just worked. I was fortunate to have a wired network drop available and all my devices were connected thru HDMI - took less than 30 minutes to un-box and connect everything up and run through the set-up function. Even the Android Remote App worked! Media Server and Spotify setup was seamless. I just bought this at Best-Buy yesterday so I can't yet comment on long term performance but so far so good.

ProsCons
Extremely easy to set up. Smaller form factor. Great price. Networking. Did I mention EASY setup. No phono input

Congrats on your new E300! For more helpful information on the AVR join us in the "2013 Denon AVR Owner's thread" linked in my sig, especially reviewing the first 6 posts in that thread. Also note that you can purchase a phono pre-amp for <$50 to connect the turntable to any analog input on the E300.

Great functionality, Airplay, auto speaker calibration in an affordable price.

review by hisink

I bought this machine at local electronic store with a nice sale price. It's about the lowest price I can get for an AV receiver with Apple airplay function. Which is a must for my family because we don't like to wear ear phone. The setup is easy, plug in network wires, speaker wires, and answer some questions show on tv. Then plug in the speaker calibration microphone and let the machine do the job. It's done.

The speaker calibration is a good function especially if 5+1 speakers are not come from same company. it will automatic adjust the gain of speakers. just sit and wait through the test.
Setting up airplay and network function are also effortless.

The only issue I encountered is that I can't see my Wii output in tv because my tv is connected to hdmi output port. and Wii use composite input. Later I checked the manual and found that I need to use hdmi to see hdmi input signal and composite only can be seen if the tv connected to composite output port too. If it has the function to sample composite input and output to hdmi, that will be the best. Otherwise, I still need to switch both tv input selector and the receiver input selector

The video signal is good. (it suppose to be. hdmi to hdmi is digital, no loss theoretically). audio output is nice too.
This product is very competitive to all the machine under $300 and worth considering.

ProsCons
5.1 room speaker calibration, airplay, good pricewon't convert composite signal to hdmi

A Good buy, but only @ a discounted price! If only Retail price~~Go with a competing brand.

review by leftyguitar1963

Initially I had purchased the E-400, but had no need for 2nd zone or 7.1 surround. I then exchanged it for the E-300.

The 1st thing that stood out to me was out of the box, that unlike the 400, the 300 case is not all metal chassis. The very top forward cover is
a plastic composite material. The HDMI inputs/output and speaker connects are closer & more crowded than the E400.

When I hooked everything up the set-up was a breeze, just had it been w/400. There was no software update for the 300, as there had been for the 400.
The OSD on the 300 has more of a DoS feel than the 400. I miss the 400 GUI!

The Remote is equivalent to last year's 1613, but I wish it was like what was included with the 400. Overall, I like the Denon remotes.
They're not nearly as cluttered as the competitions.

Like I said before, if this AVR can NOT be purchased @ an extreme discount look elsewhere. I was fortunate to get this at a local
B&M at 1/2 off the MSRP. At the discounted price I am
biggrin.gif
with my overall purchase.

ProsCons
Airplay, Audyssey MultEQ, Ease of Set-upNo Bluetooth, WiFi, MHL, 4k pass-thru, HD Radio, Back-lit remote, OSD not as refined as E400.
