HSU Research ULS-15 Subwoofer

Description:
The ULS is our lowest distortion, most musical and spouse friendly subwoofer.

HSU Research is proud to introduce the ULS-15, an ultra low distortion subwoofer that extends down to 10 Hz in most rooms. Besides outstanding performance, it is the most spouse friendly sub we've ever offered, with wireless connection, beautiful expensive finishes - real wood finish or custom satin black paint, and compact size.

It is the first high end subwoofer with wireless connection. This makes it so much easier to optimally place the subwoofer without ugly wires or the high cost of running in-wall wires to the optimal location.

For the truly high end folks, you can also run balanced signal to the subwoofer. The ultra low distortion, super deep bass extension, and balanced inputs make it ideally suitable for recording studios.

The ULS-15 features a woofer with patented super linear motor. The motor force is linear within 2% over an ultra wide +/- 20 mm. In contrast, most woofers with Xmax of +/- 30 mm will have the motor force within 2% over 5 mm or less. It also has a butyl rubber foam surround. Butyl rubber foam has the longevity of solid butyl rubber without the weight penalty. Triple shorting rings mean virtually non-existent flux modulation distortion.

Almost Perfect

review by theuo

I seem to be a sucker for beastly speakers and this one suits my bass needs nicely. This thing is a power hungry room shaker. She likes large spaces and is there to provide the serious punch when things explode in movies as well as handle the low lows. Fully sealed 15" with good excursion. Claims have been made that it will get down to 10Hz in the right environment and although I can't prove it, I can certainly believe it. Thing can rattle my front door from as far back as it can get from it without going outside, in an enclosed room, upstairs...

Only thing, if you want the sub punch for higher frequencies, I'd get something to fill in the gap, or make sure the rest of your system is to the task of filling in (like mine seems to be). If you just have a bunch of bookshelf speakers that are only really good at the high highs, you're going to be missing out on some mids. This matched with, say, some Paradigm Studio 60s (as I have) which have great range and good punch in the mid and down low makes a great setup. One day, if I have some spare cash, I might pick up a MBM-12 MK2 Mid-Bass Module to give that sub punch to the mids, but I don't really need it.

Overall good sub. Magnetic grill, BASH 1000W RMS amp, wireless connectivity, auto-on/off, x-over on/off, XLR balanced inputs, 7 year warranty on the woofer, actually designed and engineered in the US, etc...

Oh, one last thing: This thing comes packaged extremely well. READ THE UNPACKING INSTRUCTIONS! It's contained in a series of boxes and needs to be flipped a couple of times, but comes with good unpacking instructions, as long as you follow them...
