Pros: Easy to hook up and use, great remote control, wonderful sound

Cons: Size, lack of newer features (such as HDMI, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, etc.)

I bought this receiver about 10 years ago and haven't had any regrets, although I haven't taken full advantages of all its capabilities. At the time, it was fairly high end, but without an exorbitant price tag (about $650). It has 7 x 110 watts/channel at 6 ohms and a range of 5-100kHz. I used to connect 5 speakers plus a subwoofer and was pleased with the results...of course having Thiel CS2.2 speakers didn't hurt! These days I only use the Thiels plus a good quality center speaker, but the system still sounds great to me. I don't remember ever using the second-room capability.

I've especially enjoyed the remote control that came with this receiver. It's high quality, full of features and fairly easy to program. The setup menu and automatic room calibration were easy and effective. The manual has been indispensable over the years!

As for video processing, the receiver does have upconversion of composite and s-video to component with time-base correction. Having plenty of inputs and outputs, I haven't had a problem connecting anything....but technology has certainly changed and if I were in the market for a new receiver, I'd probably choose something with updated features. One of these days I hope to have a completely wireless system!
