Blu-ray Player built well

Posted

Pros: Quiet and fast blu-ray drive, Built well (unit and remote), Adjustable display lights (bright to off), External WiFi device, and Excellent Video.

Cons: Expensive, Unable to remove unwanted apps, and Gets bogged down if directories are too large.

Needed to upgrade my LG BD390 to something that would be supported longer as newer Blu-ray discs did not always load nice, and latest firmware made DVD playback difficult. After reading about OPPO back after I got my LG, I decided to see if what they had to offer for my media room upgrade. The BDP-103 was fairly new and had many features I wanted (3D, Good support, etc.) and knew it would be well supported. I did look at Sony and Panasonic players as well but felt that OPPO would provide me with what I wanted for a bit for money though. OPPO does provide great hardware in the device. OPPO packages their players well and the player even comes in a nice reusable bag (mine had a two...

Super Blu ray player

Posted

Pros: Just this side of being an AVR

Cons: No speaker calibration mic

This review won't be as technical as some or most as I am still learning and have only been involved with Home Theater for less than four years, so please bare with me. This is my third blu ray player, the firsts being an LGBD370 and then an LGBD390. I've been spoiled on the 390 as it's video quality and load times are rated among the best, so why should I shell out for the new OPPO 103? The Oppo 103 has a ton of features, streaming capabilities, 3D, converting 2D material to 3D, converting compressed material to uncompressed, lots of picture quality adjustments (being able to tweak pq through a BD player is pretty awesome), dual HDMI outs (one for audio, one for video incase you have a...

More than just a Blu-ray player

Posted

Pros: Top Quality Hardware, Very Fast Loading, Great Upscaling Capabilities

Cons: Network browsing interface could use some improvement

The Oppo BDP-103 is my first actual blu-ray player. I had previously been using PowerDVD on my HTPC. Overall I am very pleased with the Oppo, the attention to detail really shines through as soon as you open the box. Unboxing it reminded me of unboxing an Apple product. Once I had it installed, my impression only improved. The load times are extremely fast, the main interface is simple and pleasing, and the picture quality is phenomenal. The BDP-103 also solved another problem I had been having with my Home Theater. I have a DirecTV HR34 and a Denon AVR-4520CI. These two units refused to work together with the DirecTV box in native mode (HDMI Handshake Issues). This means I was...

My Best Oppo Blu-ray Player Yet

Posted

Pros: Smooth Fast Disc Tray and Startup, Upgrades Video From AT&T u-Verse Set Top Box As Well

Cons: None So Far

This is my best Oppo Blu-ray player yet. I have previously owned the BDP-83, Bdp-93 and now have the Oppo BDP-103. This is the best one out of pack for me. Not only is the audio and video quality awesome for blu-ray and DVD playback but the speed of playback along with the ability to use the 2nd HDMI input in the rear to feed my AT&T u-Verse through the Oppo player gaining the benefit of the excellent video processing of the BDP103 puts it in a league by itself. There is a noticeable improvement in the picture from the AT&T set top box when it gets processed through the BDP-103. I have a friend who uses DISH TV through his BDP-103 with the same result that I have with my AT&T set top box....

This is the ONLY blu ray player you will want to own! Awesome is putting it mildly. And less than $600!!

Posted

Pros: Quick start, 3D capability, DVD Audio and SACD playback, Amazing video and audio, Easy set up

Cons: None

I have owned a few blu ray players in the past and never truly satisfied until my dream machine was released at well under a thousand bucks! I have been dreaming of owning an Oppo since I remember blu ray players getting popular (I am early adopter since HD-DVD/blu ray war).but never could find myself putting out so much money on a disc player. All the other Oppo players were way over a thousand bucks and the BDP 103 was released at about $500. Some people may still find that steep on their budget, but I knew I have been needing a player that can handle playing my high resolution audio discs like SACD and DVD Audio from years ago. I always used my old Pioneer Elite DVD player from years...

A well crafted, high end disc player that also can serve up other streamed media quite well. Like all players, it is not without flaws.

Pros: Excellent disc playback of DVD, SACD and of course Blu Ray. Media streaming is some of the best I've seen.

Cons: Occaisional freeze up when searching for my 2 NAS (media files), remote will not adjust audio unless analogue connections.

The price of this Oppo does put it in that special category of "high end" players. It has some solid competition but overall, seems to win the hearts of many (including myself) who want to be sure that the basic features are top notch and also get to enjoy additional bells and whistles. Where the Oppo shines is in its excellent playback of both disc and quality media files via network connection. As an owner it would be easy to be biased so I set up a comparison test of my original blu ray disc to an m2ts file extracted and played via network from NAS. Three friends had an opportunity to contrast and compare and were amazed to find out that the "repeat" was in fact a file and not...

Fantastic player!

Posted

Pros: Built like a rock, great features, easy set-up.

Cons: A little pricey.

After taking the jump and purchasing a 3D HDTV, I needed a Blu-Ray player that could play 3D discs. The OPPO brand got great reviews and even though it was more expensive than many players out there, I decided it was dumb to pair a cheaper Blu-Ray player with an expensive TV. I don't regret the decision for a second. The BDP-103 is heavier than most players because the unit feels incredibly solid. Once hooked up, setting up the player is very easy. You're walked through a quick set-up and it's ready to go. That said, there are lots of tweaks available depending upon your home theater set-up. A search on the Internet as well as the AVS Forum revealed lots of "preferred" settings but, as...
