The Gold Standard for Blu-ray Disc Playback

Posted

Pros: Solid Build Quality, Fast Boot & Disc Load, Network Media Support, Nearly Universal Disc Media Support, Pure Audio Mode

Cons: DLNA navigation is slow

My Oppo BDP-93 was my 3rd foray into the Blu-ray disc player arena after two prior and utterly disappointing experiences with a Samsung BD-P1400 and the BD-P1600 that was its warranty replacement. The Oppo BDP-93 has excelled in the all the areas that the other players fell short. To name a few: Disc Loading Times - the Oppo BDP-93 averages a 15 second loading time for most BD media in my library. Previously I would expect to be in for a 2-3 minute wait with either of the Samsung models; and that was assuming that the disc would even load. The BDP-93 has yet to meet a disc it can't play. Disc Support - the Oppo BDP-93 supports every disc type in my library except Laserdisc (for...

OPPO BDP-93 3D Multi Zone ALL Region Free - A true beast of a media machine and the last Blu-ray player you will ever need

Posted

Pros: Beautiful, sleek and silent. Plays everything you throw at it. Outstanding video processing and DVD upscaling.

Cons: A bit slow to load some titles. Somewhat cumbersome and too bulky of a remote.

The OPPO BDP-93 is a thing of beauty! With its superb sturdy design, brushed metal front plate and flush buttons this baby truly is the ultimate media machine. The BDP-93 supports all sort of audio formats and sounds great right out of the box but what truly makes it shine is the outstanding picture quality produced by its Marvell QDEO onboard video processing technology; Blu-ray titles never looked better and DVD upscaling quality is off the chart. Connect a USB or e-SATA drive and, in addition to playing physical media the OPPO can now also handle MP3, WAV, FLAC and AAC for audio files, and MPEG-4, DivX, AVCHD and MKV for video files. Because I went for a slightly more expensive Multi...

I'm sticking with my 93!

Pros: Great picture and sound, and good networking of music

Cons: None that I can think of!

The Oppo BDP-93 is a great Blu-ray player and network hub. Its picture quality is second to none and its analog audio is great (I don't have the kind of "price is no object" audio gear that might motivate one to buy Oppo's 95 or 105 models). It does have 3D capability (and dual HDMI outputs for that purpose, so the image can go directly to a 3D display if the AVR's electronics can't pass on a 3D signal), but I don't like 3D, so that hardly matters to me. It has both an Ethernet jack and an external Wifi N dongle (which I never set up, since I have a router in the same cabinet to make a wired connection). I've yet to find a Blu-ray, DVD, CD, SACD, or DVD-Audio disk that gives it any...

Nice player, Plays 3D movies perfect, Strong SACD and DVD Audio Player

Posted

Pros: Plays 3D movies, SACD and DVD Audio, Plays MTS, MPEG, MKV, AVI, Uncompressed Audio, Master DTS, HD Dolby

Cons: Slow to load up compared to other players, IR sometimes hard to read

Ever since buying their 1st BDP-83, I have will never own another player but Oppo, now the BDP-93, not just because it plays Blu Rays and up-converted DVD the best all the features that come with and I have used them, 3D movie look great played through this and my 60in LG using the liquid filled shutter glasses. SACD plays and sound perfect, so does the DVD Audio, uncompressed audio is perfect also, I never knew what I was missing until I played my blu rays with the Master DTS and HD Dolby Digital on my BLU Ray movies, its also nice that this machine recognizes so many formats like MTS, MT2S, MKV, AVI, MPEG. I also like how the updating is done wireless also and automatically. The Oppo...

A platform for getting great sound

Posted

Pros: Excellent opportunity for sound

Cons: Average video, DLNA and Internet performance

From a two-year period of evaluation, I like to provide some feedback on the list of features, advertized by Oppo, the following rational conclusions are made: Diversified Media Support: Blu-ray Disc – Works as advertised without flaws Blu-ray 3D - Some disks seem to require the 3D Mode setting Forced in order for the display to properly show 3d image SACD – Multi-Channel priority and DSD output setting to SACD of DSD then the player is working as an analog passthrough. It will go straight to analog without any conversion or processing. For my 4.0 setup, I have negotiated a solution where the 7.1-Channel Analogue Output board is replaced by 3rd party hardware. DVD-Audio - Works as...

Excellent

Pros: Plays almost everything, from new discs, 2nd hand discs, and downloads, unlike other blu-ray players i have owned.

Cons: The construction of the tray could be more solid.

Features I have no interest in 3D so have not tested that. While it has build in network capabilities, like every device on the planet, i use a dedicated media center running XBMC. Those are frills anyway, who cares if your dvd or tv has a YouTube app. Built-in vendor apps can never compete on features or power with a popular open source project like XBMC or mythTV. The most useful feature is the eSata port which I have connected to a large external hard drive to hold blu-ray concerts and MKV multi-channel audio files. This provides the best quality without the compromises of a PC-based media center. USB based external drives just don't have the throughput for large blu-ray files at...
