Rotel Rolls Out RAP-1580 7-Channel Integrated Amp with 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos Processing

Rotel RAP-1580

Say hello to the Rotel RAP-1580 ($3800), a seven-channel integrated amp that sports 11-channel surround-sound processing. It decodes Dolby Atmos as well as DTS:X object-based immersive audio formats and aims to offer the performance of a system based on separate components in a single chassis.

A peek under the hood of the RAP-1580 reveals a large toroidal Transformer that lets this 50-pound beast provide 100 watts per channel continuous power to all seven channels simultaneously when driving an 8 ohm load (4 ohm minimum). It is also able to drive two channels simultaneously at 150 watts per channel, and either way total harmonic distortion (THD) stays under 0.03% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

In terms of connectivity, you get 8 HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs. Three of the HDMI inputs and both of the outputs support HDCP 2.2.

For audio, you get plenty of analog and digital connections. There are three sets of unbalanced RCA inputs, a MM phono input, multi-channel analog RCA inputs, and a Stereo XLR balanced input. For digital audio, you get three optical-digital connections, three coaxial-digital connections, USB (with PC support), and Ethernet. Additionally, there is Bluetooth with aptX.

Correcting for a room Acoustics comes courtesy of 10 Channel parametric EQ. Rotel suggests that this Wolfson DAC-equipped multi-channel monster is equally adept at reproducing two-channel and multi-channel audio with exceptional fidelity.

It is an ultra-high-performance multichannel, integrated amplifier with surround processing that brings music and movies to life in a startlingly vivid way,” says Doug Henderson, U.S. President of The B&W Group. “This is our finest home theater product yet. While it resembles a ‘receiver’, it really is in a class by itself.
