Too many models in one thread

Great suggestion Prodigy7. We should start seeing some 42PX80 owners soon.

Yes - the other thread for last year has nearly 9000 posts. This should really be three threads. My preference would be a thread for each model. But a thread for each grouping (e.g. 800/850 thread) should really be the most.

I have a PX80 on the way. Will post thoughts upon receipt.

Thanks for the pm message today and the piece of paper you are sending me I would like to see some pics also.

I agree, leave off the 800 and 850 series until they are for sale "in the wild" and start a seperate thread for them.

I think thé picture where everyone is waiting for is a 4280 next to a PX80 in a dark room.

Nice! Now if only they would hit some streets slightly closer to me... (can't make it work for your shipping costs, although I know that's not your fault).

The 1080p models should not be in the same thread as the 720p model. It will cause confusion. I think the new 2008 lineup should be broken down into two or even three official threads.....

The PX80U 720p model should have it's own thread since it's the only 720p set.

Then there should be a separate thread for the 1080p models - PZ80U/PZ85U/PZ800U/PZ850U.

Or maybe even put the PZ80/PZ85U into one thread then put the PZ800U/PZ850U into another thread.

I like that one.

Well the 2007 1080p lineup and 720p lineup had their own separate threads last year, so why not follow that same convention this year?

And with there now being two different 1080p lineups, having three separate threads will eliminate confusion and each thread will be more on-topic.

Nevermind, found out Abt shipping the PX80 tomorrow.

I'm waiting for a decent $$$ at CC as I have $350 in gift cards. Definately going with the 42PX80.

I've seen the px80 at BB next to the px75. The 80 has better blacks versus the 75 but not as nice as the 4280 Pio.

Whats the pricing on the 50PX80? Anyone know yet? Also, can anyone in this thread confirm the difference over last years PX line?

Mine is being delivered Thursday. I will post some findings over the weekend.

I don't understand all the hype about black level performance. What if a set has wonderful blacks, but the whites are poor or it doesn't get as bright as one likes the set to be, or the image as a sum is not as nice looking?

Excellent black levels is an obvious necessity for panels, but there's a ton of other subjective factors that play their role.

BTW, if the entry level set is close to the Pio in black levels, maybe not as good, but close...you're talking about a $400 difference from the lowest price I have seen the set online for.

But there's much more to come...the much higher contrast sets will be the true test of these Panasonics vs. the Pios on the basis of black level performance only.

My 42PX80 is being delievered today thanks to Panasonic EPP. I will take some pics and post this afternoon...pretty excited as this is my first plasma (main tv is a sony 1080p SXRD).

You can now add the 4280U to cart for delivery at CC. Still >MSRP though. Now if only they would drop down a couple hundred that would be nice.

Late at evening, lights dimmed or out in the living room, watching a movie, deep blacks are very nice. Thé X-Factor. It's imo much more important than bright LCD like whites (which is only handy if you have no light controlled environment during daytime).

Just looked at a PX80 at my local Best Buy. Despite whatever cables and source BB was using, I was very pleased with what I saw. The PX80 exhibits a very deep shade of black. The colors were exciting and realistic. The whites were very bright.

As for comparing displays ... unfortunately, the Kuro was away, about 10 feet horizontally and 6 feet vertically, so no chance at a realistic comparison. From what I could observe, and along the lines of what many people are confirming, the Kuro still had the darker blacks.

What was within comparison range was a 42 Toshiba, LG, and Panasonic 42PZ700U plasma. It was easily discernible to me that the PX80 had darker blacks than all three. It easily beat the Toshiba and LG models and was noticeably better than the 700U. It also exhibited much brighter whites than all three.

That's about as detailed as I am comfortable with being, given my general lack of knowledge in the area of displays and the fact that I have no idea how or if any of the TVs were calibrated and what quality source they were displaying.
