I have not read a post from you PZ80/PZ85 owners in about a month. Mine has not given me any trouble. Any other satisfied owners still posting here?
Still kicking! 2 years.
And after setting it up with the Spears and Munsil disc along with the original AVSHD I used to begin with - it is like a new TV!
I had my contrast cranked WAY too high.
For some reason I used to think you were supposed to set contrast as high as you could without clipping anything in the 16-234 area. That is too much!
The Spears and Munsil disc showed that you have to lower the contrast quite a bit to keep REDs from clipping in the color "Clipping" pattern.
When I did that it gave the TV that CRT look that I love. If it only just had CRT blacks.
If the black levels are rising like some have reported, I can't tell. I thought it may have been happening earlier, but that is when I had contrast at 80-90 instead of the correct 42-46 for the PZ80u and it was a little too bright/washed out looking.
I was originally mad when I first heard of the rising black levels and said I never get another Panasonic ever again. But it has been a great TV for the past couple of years and is giving me a quality picture now that I never knew it could.
I hate reading that they have just broken on people here for no reason. As long as that does not happen to me - my next TV will be a Panasonic plasma!
