I don't know whether this is because of their warehousing distribution. I live in Seattle.

I am thinking of cancelling the order. Can't wait for another two months.

I think Cleveland Plasma is right, they are probably doing this to protect dealers since it seems (at least on this board) everyone and their uncle has access to that EPP! heck, i'd love to get access.

I think some of the dealers got a little pissed and so panny is "adding" delay now to EPP shipments to level the field a bit, push more folk to buy from dealers for the time being....just my 2 c

I called Panasonic and the guy very affirmedly said "mid-late may".

Anyone who has more specific info than that better supply some sort of proof, since i'm not even saying what i was told is finite.

I called to verify my orderd that I put in on 3-12 and they confirmed mine will be at my door on 3-20. Maybe I go lucky for a change.
Just a suggestion: why not buy them online, guys? There are lots available. Vann's even has free shipping, and it's a reputable merchant.

Amazon has a good price on the 50PZ85U. But it's actually sold by Electronics Expo, and they apparently don't allow non-defective returns on TVs

I know there are other threads on the subject....but....I'm debating pre-ordering a 50PZ800 on-line.....just very hesitant. Have never bought such a big ticket item on-line....and I'm a little nervous about what to do if something goes wrong with it. It's always nice knowing I could take it back to a BB/CC...or local dealer.

However, I think I can probably save $500 or maybe slightly more if I buy on-line.

And honestly, I'm guessing I might end up dealing with Panny directly if I had any problems and wouldn't be taking it back to the store anyways....so maybe I shouldn't be so hesitant to buy on-line.

However, I know the wife will be all over me if I don't buy locally....she's all about "service" and "comfort".....while I'm all about finding the best deal.....although, service/comfort is nice too.

Seems like Cleveland Plasma and Mountavision both provide excellent service...they are who I'm considering buying from.

Just looking for some encouragement to go ahead and order on-line

I have tested that. Yes, they ARE unique per input. FINALLY!

In response to: Are the cinema/custom settings unique per input.

If you do, could you run the Folding @ home application on it (start it up without a disc in and you should see the option if you've got the latest PS3 firmware update installed) and tell me whether the globe that's displayed is smooth?

This seems to be a very tough test and I've yet to find a flat-panel that doesn't have posterisation to some degree with it so it would be great to hear how these sets do.

The Kuros can't do black either. It's disappointing to hear that they're not even on the level of them though, I had hoped they would be somewhat better. (with the 9G Pioneers raising the bar for flat panels again)

I tested the 85u on the folding at home planet. It passed the test flawlessly! I'm amazed! This TV does gradients so well! It does appear to do this using a process however.

The number of colors it can produce may or may not have been increased, but it's performance with banding is still much better. The process looks similar to that of the Kuros but better. Like the Kuros it introduces a small amount of noise into the color transitions. It's basically introducing many tiny dots of slightly lighter or darker colors (like a stipple-effect) to gradually lighten or darken the banded sections and smooth the transitions through colors it can't create natively. Unlike the kuros, it does this without causing the appearance of blurring. Yay!

Admittedly, it is only a process, not more native colors, but it is invisible from 2 + feet away and makes PQ soooo much better. It's a really brilliant idea. IMHO this is a real selling point for these new sets.

And while performing the test I noticed that my PS3 sounds like it's about to die. It kind of roars and whistles when it's working extra hard.

That is great to hear. remember that D-nice had said "true" 4096 greys in the 2008s (implying that the 2007's didn't really have 4096), so it's possible that they do actualy have increased shades of gradation...

Great observation and analysis Footbaggin. your contributions to this thread are well appreciated

There are plenty of great retailers out there online. Hell, some probably offer better service than a local place. I would suggest checking out their rating over at Reseller Ratings before buying to see what others have to say.

Oh, and my 50PZ85 arrives today.

I just got my 85U and had a little time to watch it before heading to work.

I just noticed 1 strange thing, when I had a 100% white screen I noticed some flicker, is this normal? Other colors seemed flicker free.

I will post in more detail once I get home tonight.

I purchased from amazon directly. The amazon price, although not as low as electronics expo, is (or at least was) almost 20% off. And, they do accept returns. I paid 2200 and it gets to my apt thur 3/20

My set does not flicker at all on a full white screen. I could see video noise from the Break-in disc, but not exactly flicker.
