Are you using component cables and NOT the cables that came with the Wii? I have used strictly component cables and haven't noticed any blur in text. I mean you won't get the same sharp resolution as a PS3, but it's not too bad.

HOW TRUE! I only noticed one that is in an area that is not noticeble (unless right on top of TV), but it bothered the hell out of me for a while. I no longer look to see if it is still there and/or if there are any others.

All my HDMI cables are cheap Ohs run through a HDMI switch with a 35ft run to a HD projector with no repeat no PQ loss or problems.
Also cheap ohs to the PZ80

Anyone with a Dish Network VIP 622/722 notice the menu/guide is not very clear. Kind of blurry?

Not that it bothers me since I only look at it for a few seconds. But was wondering if its normal.

I've used a bunch of sub $10 dollar HDMI cables and Component cables without issue. I did have one cable give me problems with my PS3, but when I swapped it with another cable, all was fine. The "defective' cable is now running from my satellite receiver to my TV w/o any issue.

Probably was some dust or something.

But if you spend anymore $$$ than what you can get them for at monoprice, firefold, etc...., you are getting ripped off.

A friend of mine is looking into buying the TH42PZ85U and I'm trying to find out how well it handles PC input. As the VGA input is limited to a maximum resolution of 1280x1024, I'm wondering how well it handles HDMI PC input. Does the TV support a "dot-by-dot" mode that eliminates overscan in HDMI mode? Anyone using a PC with their displays?

I cant comment on HDMI, but Im sending my tv 1280x1024 using the vga port on my laptop. Amazon unbox tv shows look very good.

Mine was a little blurry, but it was the blurry hd that sent me back to Directv

Well, the problem there is simply that 1280x1024 is a 5:4 resolution that would result in a stretched image on a 16:9 screen. I know it supports 1360x768 as well, which would work, but I think he would like to take full advantage of the display resolution rather than using any sort of scaling.

It has a stretched look, but doesnt bother me any worse than when I stretch out SD programming.

I suppose we're both a bit pickier when it comes to PC input, however. :P

Do you have any HDMI devices, by the way? Is there any way to view the image without any overscan? That's pretty much what I'm trying to determine.

Just took delivery of my 42pz80U from NewEgg.com's pre-Black Friday sale and I'm very happy with my purchase. I've been watching the price on these and debating back and forth on whether or not to buy the 42 or go bigger. Well, given the size constraints of my apartment I made the right choice. Working on the break-in now, which is tough, because I know how good this particular set looks once it's dialed in. This site has been really helpful in helping me choose the Panasonic over every other set I looked at.
Just took delivery of my 42pz80U as well. Im going give it 2 hours to warm up before turning it on. The box and TV are cold, as it was in the truck since 5am I was told.

If someone can PM some settings and what aspect mode to have it in during break-in that would be nice.

i guess it will depend a lot on the video card in the computer. i have a Mac Mini connected via DVI-->HDMI and it puts out 1920x1080 to the tv. i just have to have the tv set to HD size 2, which is 100% and everything displays perfectly.
Just hooked up my PC to my 85u and after messing with the DVI settings it is doing dot by dot (I think) 1920x1080

I have a Nvidia 8800GS connected to 42PZ85 through DVI-HDMI. Desktop @ 1920x1080 looks great. No overscan as long as you use HD Size 2 on the TV.

However, I do have trouble running some lower resolutions. Windows task bar gets cut off at 1280x720. Not sure about 1360x768. 1280x1024 works but would either be stretched or boxed due to 5:4 aspect ratio. I've yet to start gaming on the PC and the 8800GS is not going to handle 1920x1080 gaming. Still not sure what I'd do.

I have the ViP 722 and notice it to be a little blurry as well. Also, are some of your HD channels a little pixelated or compressed?

ill be buying the 50 inch 85u in January (tax time is the best) and im pretty hyped....thanks everyone for all the information, buying a new tv is the hardest purchase iv ever made...this will be my first hdtv, as im currently viewing a 32 inch ilo tv that i bought when i first moved into my apartment

My pz80 is connected to a DirecTv HR22 HD receiver. I downloaded their Hulk 1080P demo, Woo eee looks as good as Blu-Ray. Things are starting to happen. The more 1080P programming that will become available will surely drive the price of Blu-ray Discs down

Well I got this 42" 80 last friday and I'm been impressed with it so far. I have been running the burn in slides that I downloaded to the card every night for about 10 hours since saturday night. The tv has also been used for 4-6 hours a day since we got it for viewing. Should I keep running the slides until I have a full 100 hours with them or can I consider the normal viewing time towards the 100 hours.

I've been watching both full screen and some shows with letterbox during this time incase the fact that the black bars are going to be an issue in counting the time and the normal view the picture setting is at 80, where as it's at zero on the slides.
So has no one else heard that the 85 is being discontinued?
I got my 42pz80 up and running, it looks very nice. Now I do see phosphor trails in COD 4 and a very little bit in a basketball game on TNT. I have heard this normal when in break-in period and should go away, is this true?

Best to not do ANY black bars for the first 100. Though there are many naysayers, I believe, as do others, that a nice even burn of the phosphors for the first 100+ is good. I'd count only full screen viewing toward the total and stop watching anything with bars. It's only 100 hrs.

Not yet, but I'm expecting it any time now.

I've seen a few bits of trail with COD4, I don't think they will ever go away entirely but it's reasonable to think they will diminish. It's certianly nowhere near as dramatic or distracting as what's posted on youtube.

So now am the proud owner of a 42PZ85U. Getting delivered tomorrow by big rivers white glove service. Any thing I should look for or do as they unpack the TV and before they leave?

Thanks in advanced.

Got my 50"85U and looks good. No dead or stuck pixels or any other factory defects.
Is there any way to change Gamma on this set via service menu?

It somewhat clips the white even on low contrast setting. I know 850 series offers gamma in its user's menu but not the 85 series. Thanks in advance.

Coincidentally i'm getting mine delivered tomorrow and want to know the same thing.

I have my SD card with the break in images ready to pop in once they get it set up. Hopefully this won't take too long to get up and running. Hope they're patient with me also. Anything else i should know?
My advice is to let unit warm up to room temp unplugged first and then run the set with low contrast with full screen material. I personally don't have the time to follow a complete break-in with disks but I might do it here and there during first couple of hundred hours mixed with regular 1080 TV programs.

You will love your set it is a good TV. The only thing that I have reservation is the shiny highly reflective protective screen over the panel. I can see myself while watching.
