Hey fellas, and ladies if there are any of you in here, I just bought a 46PZ85U yesterday at Best Buy for $1,499. I've been lurking around here lately to get myself prepared for setting it up when it gets delivered Sunday. You guys have been a huge help! I'm somewhat of an audiophile (and TVphile?), but every TV is different and I plan on taking extra special care of my new baby. I've been looking forward to this thing for what seems like forever now. My 10 year old 47" Panasonic RPTV is on it's last leg. The bulbs on that bad boy have never been changed but somehow it still manages a good 1080i picture for a 1st generation HDTV. I can't even imagine how great this 85U is going to look!

For the past year I've been burning all my cash on A/V equipment so that when I finally get the OK from the wife to get a new TV, I'll have everything else ready to go. Got a new Yamaha 663 AVR, a dope Polk sound system (4 bookshelfs, center channel and a sub), a PS3, DirecTV HD and at last I will finally have the most important piece of it all this weekend! One question though... I currently have 800 series Monster component cables. I'm not in love with HDMI yet despite the fact that everything I have is HDMI capable. These cables are about as good as component cables can get, so my question is, do you think the picture quality using these cables will be just as good as the picture using HDMI in regards to my DirecTV HD box? I'll go HDMI with the PS3 but I want to avoid buying more expensive cables just yet if I can.

I'll have to post some pics for you guys once I get it all set up. I still need to buy a TV stand for it. Anybody know where to get a good one on the cheap? That stuff at Best Buy is OK, but it cost more than it's worth if you ask me. (sorry if this is considered price talk, I'm new around here!)

I was thinking more along the lines of this

http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=PANTH46PZ80U i know theres no price talk but thats under eleven hundred

Ooh.. I gotta check that out! I've got an HDMI output on my PC but it's in a different room. I didn't want to move my computer but that sounds like a reasonable way to get into to the Panny! Thanks!

I got the 35ft cable from them as well. So far no problems with their equipment or service.
Heard a few bad stories about some other switches not mentioning any names.

Yeah, can't make too many. Wouldn't want to deprive the consumer of choice.

I can't believe they're still making 720p displays. What's up with that?

Oh well nothing is perfect. To bad.

Yes I know I have a Pioneer plasma in the living room that is 2 years old and still has excellent PQ even from the sides. LCD will be in bedroom 5 feet off the ground so when im laying down with my shorty we will both be in the sweet spot I don't need a 3rd wheel in there.

Oh, by the way genius expert your 5070 IS NOT 1080i, so we can pretty much dismiss the rest of your "expert opinions".

Wow, your telling me that my 5070 does not display at 1080i, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about, lmao, now thats funny. Please enlighten me and tell me what MY 5070 is, please. lol. I can't wait to hear this one now. Another thing it's not 4 time more. Damn, if you have people like this guy commenting in this thread, now i understand why people think the 80u and 85u are so good.

I just find it very very funny how people on this thread defend the panny as the best tv and then I go to the Sammy 750 lcd thread they they defend their sets as the best tv and say the pannys are not as good. It's also freedom of speech. I am not defending lcd when I do not even own one yet, I still have my 85u, i just dont see the amazement in it thats all and when i look at the sammy 750 the picture looks sharper and more 3 dimensional and the colors look good to and they have contrast ratio of 50k:1, the firmware is upgradeable via internet connection and u can display the weather, news and sports scores. I am still deciding if i am going to return it or not. Some People get so sensitive over a tv. wow.

riiiiight....you are right, we are DEVASTATED you dont like the 85u....but learn your info, like saying your tv is 1080i....the 5070 is 720p, guy....see my post above

My man, trust me I own a Pio 5070, set up via Direct tv DVR with a setting on 1080i only, I display all channels in 1080i and confirmed when I hit the diaplay key indicating that it is 1080i. I can choose between 720p and 1080i. Another thing is when I set up my PS3, i set it to 1080p, and when I play a Blu-ray movie and I press the display button for the tv is says 1080p due to the fact that this Pioneer is so advanced and the processor in it is so awesome it can accept a 1080p/24hz signal. Now if you dont believe me just go to the Pioneer 5070 thread and ask away. You should really learn the difference between 720p and 1080i, not 1080p but 1080i, the Pioneer 5070 is a 1080i/720p. If a set can display a 720p signal it can certainly display a 1080i signal. Thats HD 101. Sorry.
