Panasonic PZ80/PZ85 Owners Thread [No Price Talk] - Page 322

Can anyone tell me if I can find the PZ85 at costco or other wharehouse places?

The one I saw at costco had a different model number and didnt have the piano black finish which i like better.

Appreciate the help.

Also, anyone think prices will fall on these sets soon, given the new lineup will begin release in march?

Costco has their own version. As far as "fall", dude, you can buy a damn fine 50" 85u 1080p plasma online for $1500 shipped. Dont take this the wrong way, but just buy the damn thing!

If you are going to obsess about getting the best price on electronics like tv's and av receivers, you might as well never buy.

Depends on how many of the PZ were built and unsold I guess.
IMO nothing wrong buying last years model on any AV/PC equipment, I don't need to be on the Bleeding Edge.

Nope, this is a great tv, which is why he should just buy it and enjoy it.

I remember someone have issues with what I paid (bought my tv the FIRST week they arrived at BBuy). I was like dude, Ive been enjoying my tv for 5 mo's, and your still have angst about buying it. I had already forgotten how much I paid

The longer you wait, the less time you are enjoying the new tv.

Agreed, Waiting for prices to drop on last years model is a gamble, they may have already bin sold. The sign of a smart manufacturer build x copies sell x copies at normal price.

Ive always just reasearched, found what I wanted, planned for it and pulled the trigger.

Its best to buy and enjoy, there is no way these days to keep from getting screwed in some way on an electronics purchase

Its like waiting till march for a better price on a 85. Guess what, you just bought last years model at a good deal, but youre screwed because the new model is out and is better then the discounted tv you just bought

There are reliable online retailers with competitive pricing with free shipping and no tax

Site sponser PLasma concepts has it at $1666 and free shipping. This tv is a steal at the $1500-$1700 range.

I paid $1300 for a 46" Sony RPLCD two years ago, and it does not hold a candle to the 85u

I know we are not suppose to do pricing, but it is Hard not to help your fellow man.

Well, not putting up prices is to help site sponsors. Whenever I post a site sponsor price, I dont sweat it

They really frown on amazon, bbuy, etc pricing posts

Can't find anymore 1080P content off DirecTv, I heard it was for Beta Testing only.
Its really only been beta.I test the beta software sometimes, it can be buggy. They were trying to work out and find what tv's that can do 1080p/24 but would not handshake with the dvr correctly. I think they have most of it fixed, and I'd expect them to start adding sometime this qtr.

I found out today that the Panny PX 720p plasmas accept 1080p input and work with Direct's 1080p VOD. Thought that was funny since some 1080p tv's dont accept 24p.

Another thumbs up for Panasonic, reliable bang for buck TVs

I asked that question a few posts ago, but no one answered in detail. The Costco model that I was looking at 42" THC42FD18, looks just like the 85u except non-piano black and lower native contrast. I think the 50" was not sold at my local Costco as of yesterday. IMO, I think the cheapest prices on these guys will hit bottom around Superbowl time...
Anyone using a swivel. This is slightly bigger than the foot on my 85u and the weight limit or more than enough. Thinking this would be great for when guests are over.

1080p is available on some VOD channels only. otherwise the highest resolution from DTV is 1080i. I think the Hulk trailer is still available as a 1080p test, check the VOD listings.

They only make so many copies of each model if you wait you could lose the opportunity. Vendors do not keep large numbers in stock when there gone that's it. I've been bit more than once by waiting.

The concept looks OK but don't know if that model will handle your 50pz. Only 26" wide.
PZ base is only 18" wide

Hey guys, I got my 42" 80U just a few days before Christmas after returning a Black Friday Samsung 40" LCD because of a dead pixel. I absolutely love this TV and feel it was well worth the upgrade. Now I have a dilemma because a competing big box store is offering the 46" 80U for just $20 more ($999) than I paid for the 42" version. Is it wrong to return and otherwise fine TV for the upgrade?
Well, IMHO its wrong to return it as bad. If the store allows 30 days, then go for it.

Im just saying I dont like people who mislead stores to return purchases, but if its all square, the size increase would be nice.
Anyone have an update on the green blob issue that some of these Panny plasmas have?
I noticed it again last night while using my 80U as a PC monitor and looking at a white document full screen.
It's not a horrible thing, and is not seen with regular TV viewing. It seems to be worse than before, but that's a hard thing to measure

have you checked with Panasonic? my base has a metal recessed ring on the bottom that looks like it would fit a swivel. I bought a washer type bearing, attached it to a piece of MDF sized just smaller than the base, and thick enough to lift the set @ 1/16". This swivels too easily sometimes.

They definitely have a 30 day window for returns/exchanges. I wouldn't tell them I had a problem with it, since there is no reason the set couldn't be sold as an open box buy. Just thinking that if they allow no questions asked returns and I can get a clearly bigger, better set for the same price then I don't see any reason to not take advantage of it.

Did you try to adjust it out with picture, color, brightness? Or adjusting the video card output?

or he could just use it as a tv, like it's supposed to be used, and be issue free....computer's come with monitor's, no?

I use my 85u to watch amazon vod via vga cable from my laptop and have not noticed anything. The vod looks quite good.

It's a known issue, not related to PC use. You just notice it more on PC use. Here are a couple of posts on it.If it stays like it is, I'm OK with it, since you can't see it in regular TV watching, though one guy said he sees it with snow scenes. I just don't want it to get worse.

I don't think they'll give you problem especially if you're paying additional for the upgrade.

well smart guy, the 85U comes with a PC input so using a plasma as a monitor is not such a rare thing. It's not a full time monitor for me anyway, but I do have movies on my PC
