Pioneer Elite DV-38A or .....

I'm looking for a great CD player.

Choices would include the Theta Pearl, Planet 2000, lower end sony SACD players.

Should I just buy the Perpetual Tech P-3A and use a dvd player as the transport or would it be better to get a CD player that does all the conversions in the box to completely eliminate jitter.

I'm really looking for any suggestions on a excellent CD player, do you think the pioneer 38A can compete with any of the nice cd players?

I've almost got my main speakers (odysseys) and I'm already looking towards a high quality source with great soundstaging and imaging!

Thanks,

Nathan

I've found that the Monarchy 24/96 de-jitter box works extremely well; I use the coax. out from my DVD player to it, and balanced from it to my Proceed AVP. Thinking this way might open up your choices, It really does improve the sound and enables me to use a more versatile transport and avoid doubling up on DAC's.

A friend has the Elite DV-38A. I was blown-away at the picture this produced when connected via S-Video to my Proxima DX3 projector. I could almost give-up my HTPC for this. He uses it connected to his Sony 36XBR400 TV.

On the audio side, a Monarchy DIP does improve it. My friend has my previous original DIP while I now have a DIP-II.

As a straight cd player it is pretty good. Adding a Bel Canto DAC-1 onto it will alter it sonics and add that Bel Canto charm. ( FYI: digital gear I have at home includes Micromega Premium DVD2, Bel Canto DAC-1, Altis CDT-3 transport, Wadia 27ix DAC. )

The DV-38A is a very nice 1-box solution. I am sure the Sony 9000 SACD/DVD has similar attributes for about the same cost.

Another vote for the DV-38A

Eventhough I always like the Elite(the older model), you might want to check out the Toshiba 9200 also. It received excellent review from Hometheater mag. I don't own any of this but also thinking about getting one. http://www.hometheatermag.com/printarchives.cgi?62

Nathan, I'm using a P-3A with my Toshiba SD 3109 DVD player, with great results. I'm hoping to order the P-1A in the next 2 weeks.
