I hadn't heard it in years either. i happened across it today in a used media store and scarfed it right up.
had the lp back in the day but 'lost' it somewhere along the line.

question-who does the lead vocals. beck? or ?

I never figured it to be Beck since Stewart sang on his previous albums.

Vampire Weekend again. Easy to burn out on because it is easy to listen to over and over again, but it is a good album. For some reason I hear some Paul Simon in there.

I literally just got my turntable setup on my system for the first time in a few years. The last 3 receivers I have had didn't have a phono input so I bought a cheap ($40) bbe phono stage and to my surprise it sounds quite good.

I am running a Dual 604 with an ADC VLM mk.II cartridge and the sound is amazing. I am listening to a 5 year old re-issue of Eric Dolphy "Out There" on vinyl and completely forgot how well defined the soundstage is and the air between the instruments on vinyl.

Now I need to get a decent record cleaner. As soon as I end up getting settled into my new house I will be saving for a more serious vinyl setup, but for now I am quite happy with my second hand table.

William Elliot Whitmore - Animals in the Dark
Joe Bonamassa - Ballad of John Henry

Both in the same vein of blues/country. Or as I call it hard drinking music.

I just bought my first turntable two weeks ago - a Pro-Ject Debut III in Ferrari red. I also got a Pro-Ject carbon fiber brush to clean records, but the little pops haven't been totally eliminated. Still trying to figure out a practical solution.

As to what I'm listening to? I'm going through a very nostalgic phase right now so I'm picking up cheap LP's from the 80's. One of my favourites so far is Ultravox. I got the version of The Collection with two discs from eBay, so I was quite happy about that. I've also bought Systems of Romance and on Saturday I picked up Rage in Eden, which I really quite enjoy.

Oh, and I borrowed a Günter Tesch LP from my dad, and my wife is enjoying it too, even though it's not really our style of music and it's in German.

I'm discovering record stores too. I live in Ottawa and went to Vertigo Records for the first time. Decent selection but I was hoping for more. I was also in Waterloo recently where I visited the very cramped Orange Monkey Music, where I picked up some nice records for cheap.

Thanks!

The mailman just arrived with 5 more albums for me. The lot of 3 Devo albums included my first-ever coloured LP. That was a surprise. It's a nice red to match my record player! Too bad I'm working or I'd listen to it!

i've been getting albums off of ebay, about 5 in the last 2 weeks. plus maybe 4 or 5 more from a local media store.

will put a pic up in a few days after the rest of my new 2 me media arrives-re some reel to reel tapes, cds, and some more blu ray movies.

Because I just so recently bought a turntable, I've been on an eBay buying binge. But I just can't do it anymore. The shipping costs are killing me. I'm going to have to find more vinyl stores to frequent.

I am listening to the Who's Who's Next just bought on 180 gram vinyl. It sounds great!

If you guys have a Fred Meyer around you owe it to yourselves to check it out. They don't have many records but they are about 25% off list so they are cheaper than the record store.

YES!! My younger brother had that album when we were teens (mostly for the title song, naturally, which is a classic) - but it disappeared somewhere along the line.

I eventually ended up with his albums years later, after they got passed around - first him (with his thieving, hard drug-addicted "buddies"), then his ex-wife probably took some, and my younger sister got what was left (with all her punk boyfriends passing through), and by the time they got to me, that one was nowhere to be found.

I like Bonamassa, plus, your description of the music made Whitmore sound promising, so, just listened to a cut from Animals in the Dark. It's really good.. My library happens to have 3 cds of his so I'm gonna listen to them. Thanks for the tip. cheers, Ray

Ive been meaning to take a whole evening (more like a whole day, in my case) and just get online and wade through everything and order a ton of CD's.

I suppose I really should just do it a little at a time, with a notebook pad, and start writing down all I can find and think of (would help to just keep it close by at all times, for whenever I think of something).

I just want to take a few hundred dollars and order a ****load all at once. It's too much of a chore, and I'm getting to be an all-or-nothing-type person when it comes to that. It's like I can't multi-task anymore the older I get.

Probably just carrying around a little notebook would be be best. I used to do things that way - I don't know what's happened to me.

i probably spend maybe $40/$50 every other month or so on media. plus the occasional rare impulse buy.
been making a few mix (and some albums that i can't find anywhere else) cassettes off of imeem and last.fm. hope to get around to doing same with reel to reel eventually.
not sure if the sound quality is good enuff for r2r, tho. won't know 'til i try it.
