Stuart Braithwaite emailed me recently and mentioned that they're working on a remaster of Die Young for release this year. Keep an eye out for that one!

Right on. Thanks for the heads up.

Music for Quiet Listening
Howard Hanson conducting THE EASTMAN-ROCHESTER SYMPHONY
Mercury Living Presence

A very special CD for late night listening.

Compositions, performance and recording quality are outstanding. - Not a weak piece in the bunch. - The album's title is apt (though, there are some louder moments) but, this is not just one of those light-weight, easy-listening compilations.

I'm just finishing the fourth side, but I'm going to play it again. I can't believe it's already 5 years old...

I've listened to Panda Bear's solo work...including this; I actually find his compositions with AC more satisfying.

Pixies - Bossanova LP (Mobile Fidelity)

Decided to listen to their 3 MFSL reissues. This is one case where the reissues absolutely slays the originals. Highly recommended for Pixies fans. Still hoping Trompe le Monde will be reissued on MFSL one day...

Are you referring to the MFSL SACD releases as well, or just the 180 gram LP releases?

I feel sorry for people who aren't that bright. You know the ones; there's a math situation in front of you, and you see them figuring it out...when you were there many seconds ago. I feel the same way about people who don't get music. Who just listen to whatever the radio decides to play, or have a handful of CDs because they really liked that one song.

They likely don't get the Pixies; really understand how brilliant their music is. Their Quiet/Loud/Quiet formula laid the foundation for seminal albums of the 90s like Nevermind, Ten, Siamese Dream, et al.

Bossanova is actually my least favorite of the 4; but has one of my favorite singles, Velouria.

I think it would actually be Loud/Quiet/Loud and they actually made a documentary about the Pixies first comeback tour with the same title. The Pixies are one of my favorite bands. I saw them live in 1991 (just before they broke up) and once during the comeback tour. They were actually fantastic during the comeback tour. The Violent Femmes opened.
