I thought you were pretending to not know who he was with your "" at first, but evidently you were being serious (given your wiki search). So just as an FYI, as the wiki entry doesn't really communicate this, the key thing was his work with Billy Idol back in the 80's. His flashy playing style from that period is what garnered him recognition and his subsequent "gun for hire" work with the the likes of Michael Jackson, etc.

I must confess to having purchased both in the expanded versions from the early 2000's and I haven't played Slanted much at all and I might not have ever played Crooked Rain. Don't know why really. Perhaps it's because I never got into them at the time of the initial releases of those albums, and so jumping in at the deep end with all the expanded material, in addition to the main albums, was probably a bit too overwhelming a prospect to tackle. So I've kept putting it off.

Well...I'm a bit of a guitar geek; but no, I was not familiar with him. Now...I'm a geek, but that doesn't mean I know every good player...and certainly taste and appreciation can vary from listener to listener.

But my OP was kinda like...ok, there's Terry Bozzio; the guy played with Zappa! And there's Tony Levin; the guy played with Crimson(!), and has done session work with Floyd and Yes. Mr. Stevens might be a fine player; but playing with Billy Idol, and doing session work with MJ hardly compares.

It was tongue-in-cheek; but there's always the "other guy"...lol

An amazing outing and doubly delightful considering that Ahmad is now 81. Incredible chops regardless of age, highly recommended.
