It's good. Maybe not quite The Seer (except for maybe We Drift Like Worried Fire OMG!), but then again...that is outstanding!

Yes; I am trying to check out many "best of" titles that I hadn't heard yet tongue.gif I can't put my finger on it (which bugs me), but Natasha Khan really reminds me of someone. Someone great; Laura will just flatten you!

EDIT- OK, I get Tori; you know, because of the whole piano thing. And I thought Kate Bush myself, although that's not quite it. But PJ? Please...that's blasphemy, lol.

Just an amazing album! Superstar is one of my "demo" tracks.

I think it's probably Regina Spektor that she reminds me of a bit.

Yeah, there's definitely a little Tori and a little Regina in there. But, aren't all artists influenced by those that came before? As long as it isn't a blatant rip-off it's fine IMO.

No; I certainly didn't mean it like it was a bad thing. IDK...the soaring, majestic melody in Laura; it reminds me of something and someone. Might even be Michael Stipes' vocal on Strange Currencies. I mean not like it's an exact read or anything; the phrasing is just very familiar to me.

Good comparisons, one and all; so obviously I dig her. wink.gif

EDIT- Sorry to beat this to death. No one else probably cares...but it has obviously, been driving me crazy. I'm taken with the track Laura, and it so reminds me of someone/something...some track. Last post on the subject, because I think I finally hit the nail on the head: Kate Bush's This Woman's Work.

OK, listen; admittedly...I'm 45, not 25. And while I might not be the most hip/Indie guy around, I think I'm pretty open-minded and really dig a lot of the new sounds (ha, maybe stating it that way ages me as much as anything).

Also, I'm not really a rap/hip-hop guy; but I can at least appreciate really good work in the genre (I think). Love the Frank Ocean (OK, I know it's not rap nor hip-hop; but has a funky r&b tip) and Kendrick Lamar. That being said...I've tried this a few times, and really tried to see what others see in it. Sorry, I just can't...and sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. I think this is garbage! Bleck!

More end-of-year, best-of fare. This (Josephine Foster Blood Rushing) won't be everyone's cup of tea. It's quirky, but quite good; like a cross between Joan Baez and Fiona Apple, lol (check out the excellent Child Of God, to see if it's to your liking).

And this is quite fun...(and not at all, what you might expect from the cover-art; though I'm not sure what that would be, lol)

20 Titles From 2012 (say that 3 times fast, lol)

I don't know that I'd call these my "top 20"; they happen to be the exact 20 titles, I saved as favs in MOG this year.

Animal Collective, Centipede Hz
Bat For Lashes, The Haunted Man
Best Coast, The Only Place
Dan Deacon, America
Dirty Projectors, Swing Lo Magellan
Fiona Apple, The Idler Wheel...
Frank Ocean, Channel Orange
GY!BE, Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
Heartless Bastards, Arrow
Jack White, Blunderbuss
Josephine Foster, Blood Rushing
Kendrick Lamar, Good Kid, m.A.A.d City
Lianne La Havas, Is Your Love Big Enough?
Regina Spektor, What We Saw From The Cheap Seats
Sharon Van Etten, Tramp
Sleigh Bells, Reign Of Terror
Stars, The North
Swans, The Seer
Visions, Grimes
The xx, Coexist

Looking at the list...right now...I'd have to sort them out this way (and cheat a bit; just too hard to break some of these ties)

5(tie)-Sharon Van Etten, Tramp & Fiona Apple, The Idler Wheel...
4-Kendrick Lamar, Good Kid, m.A.A.d City (this isn't even my normal genre, but hard to ignore how good this ground-breaking title is)
3(tie)-GY!BE, Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! & Swans, The Seer (how do you choose between these noisy masterpieces)
2-Dirty Projectors, Swing Lo Magellan (this is really my fav, as its lo-fi, Indie sound is right in my wheel-house...however...)

1-Frank Ocean, Channel Orange (...it's hard not to call this the best work of the year. Unfortunately, I don't know how FO will ever top this debut frown.gif)

Share some of your favs? There's still a few days left to change my mind, lol.
