Of course Ray Charles was a staple in my house along with Henry Mancini, Doris Day, Dinah Shore, Lady Day, Trini Lopez, Herb Alpert and any number of the Rat Pack. Maybe that's where my appreciation for torch singers and instrumental jazz came from. The great thing about my parents was that they bought the first turntables and/or stereo gear for me. My fondest memories is of them buying a then 11 y.o. his first two LPs - Are You Experienced and Sgt. Peppers (which I still have) - for Xmas in '67............thanks again mom and dad!

Caught Spyro Gyra in concert in the 80s and they were much better than the studio releases I had or heard and can recommend their Road Scholars Live - a great live set.

My dad was exclusively classical. My first exposure to music was "Peter and the Wolf." Then Chopin...

Nomeansno - Wrong

It's a wonderful soundtrack for one of my favorite films (Baraka). I've had the pleasure of seeing Nomeansno live three times-great punk rock.

Fugazi-Steady Diet of Nothing

Yeah, they're political but you have to admit they have great musical chops for a punk rock band.

Cool. Glad you like it. Stan Getz obviously saw something in her. She's got a very nice voice for the samba music she performed, and her rawness adds something else to the mix, I think.
