First...let me apologize, for being critical of your post, to begin with. This isn't really that
place. I'm sure I post titles, others think are sh*t; and I probably wouldn't like it much, if they said so. Second...admittedly, I had a misconception, about what this album was; and sort of showed that ignorance...when I suggested this was ALL covers, of Joni's previous work. Of course...only 2 are; the aforementioned A Case Of You
, and the title track.
Upon further listen; I'll say this: I can see where others
might like it. I don't dislike it; in fact...my problem
with it, is it is just kind of "there". IMO...all these pop singers, who do a Standards
album...at the tail-end of their careers; are just phoning-in, boring, background music.
This album...like most of the others of its ilk; IMO...could have been sung by anyone. In fact...it's almost hardly singing
; it's almost more speaking
, as opposed to being very distinctive. Like Joni, reciting
these songs; just giving a rote reading. When it's someone else; someone I'm less passionate about. I'm neither offended, nor impressed; as I said...these albums, for me...are just kind of "there". But I'm a HUGE Joni fan; and I'll always
prefer her...laid-bare, with just a guitar and her voice.
I won't add insult to injury; by suggesting you haven't already. But man...if you've not listened to Blue
lately; or Court & Spark
. Hell...even Don Juan's Reckless Daughter
, screams Joni to me; more than Both Sides Now
