I heard Purple Haze in the basement of my cousins home on a summer Sunday in 67, I was a grade school kid. I could not believe someone could make sounds like that. Then I saw the album cover and knew whatever this was, I belonged. The next day I cut school and took a bus to the city to but the album.
Nothing was ever the same again.
A few years later I was listening to Zeppelin one, looked at my friend and said, this music tastes delicious. I guess somehow I had confused what I heard with my taste buds.
These were the two most powerful listening "experiences" of my life.
