HD-Ready Question

Not exactly sure where to post this, so I hope this is the right spot...

OK. I'm about to buy an Olevia 23" TV (I know it's small, but it's all I can afford ) The set says HD-Ready on Olevia's website although it's listed as HDTV on the sites it's sold at. From what I've read about HD-Ready, it seems that as long as I'm getting my HD channels from DirecTV (which will be the case) then HD-Ready is all I need. However, I'm wondering if I decide to buy an HD-DVD player down the road, will I also need to purchase a separate piece of equipment to use this with my TV? Any better explanations of what this HD-Ready means would help. Thanks.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Yep that is correct, you can also purchase HD DVD player and that is all you need, nothing more.

"HD Ready" means that the set does not have a tuner for digital OTA (ATSC) or digital cable (QAM) signals via coaxial cable. If you want to get digital OTA signals (including HD) you need an external digital OTA receiver like the Samsung DTB-H260F. If you want to get digital cable, you need a digital cable box or DVR from your cable company.

Your answer has a contradiction and might confuse the OP. The answer is NO, you don't need extra equipment to buy to connect and view HD DVD. As an aside, HD DVD is now obsolete and you might want to buy BD instead.

Thanks guys...appreciate it. I'm actually probably gonna get one of the Olevia 26" now (assuming I can find the cash) these are HDTV's (with tuners). Also, I knew it was one of those that won out over the other. I swear I meant to say Blue-Ray
