Discs the LG BH200 has problems with  

If you could mention the title, what country it was bought in, what the problem is and what firmware/driver your LG BH200 is running, it would be handy. Thanks in advance.

A Disc is not considered an LG BH200 Problem Disc, until it's been confirmed by more than one user. The Reported by only one user lists are purely for information.

Problem Discs:

Firmware BH02080620A - 2008-06-20:
Unless it says otherwise, titles have not been tested with other firmware!

1. 21, USA BD - The disc works fine (including the film) except for the "Blackjack" game, the game tries to load but then just returns to the main menu. See here.
2. Babysitters (Adult), USA HD-DVD - Playback gets stuck in opening loop and menu won't appear, pressing Skip starts the loop over again, see here. The Blu-ray Disc works fine, see here.
3. The Brave One, USA BD - The disc spins for about 3 minutes, it then ejects and displays a "disc error" message. See here. The UK HD-DVD works fine, see here.
4. Bridge to Terabithia, French HD-DVD - The menu only half appears making navigation impossible and because of this the movie cannot be played. See here.
5. Debbie Does Dallas Again (Adult), USA HD-DVD - The pop-up menu cannot be disabled. See here and here.
6. Die Fledermaus, UK/USA HD-DVD - The menu loops and navigation is impossible, see here.
7. Les Gendarmes de Saint-Tropez, French HD-DVD - Discs 1-3: No menu appears & the playtime advances irregularly, the movies won't play. The Disc Four menu appears but doesn't work. See here.
8. Intoxicated (Adult), USA HD-DVD - Playback gets stuck in opening loop and menu won't appear, pressing Skip starts the loop over again. See here.
9. Island Fever 4 (Adult), USA HD-DVD - The Disc cannot be read and an is ejected with a Disc Error, see here.
10. Jesse's Juice (Adult), USA HD-DVD - Playback gets stuck in opening loop, menu appears but pressing Skip starts the loop over again. See here.
11. Pan's Labyrinth, UK HD-DVD - The Menu appears but cannot be navigated and no options can be started. See here. It's not known if the UK Blu-ray Disc exhibits the same problems. Working with January Firmware, see here. A workaround has been found for other firmware, see here.

Picture This from Mack Dawg Productions, USA HD-DVD Combo - The menu doesn't load (meaning extras cannot be accessed), the pop-up menu causes it to freeze, the main feature plays fine but if you fast forward it freezes, you cannot then eject the disc and have to put the LG BH200 into standby to fix this. 13. Robbie Williams: Live at the Albert, UK HD-DVD - The menu loads but gets stuck in an opening loop preventing the Main Feature or Extras from being accessible. See here.
14. Robin Hood (2006), UK HD-DVD - The Menu loads but is very difficult to navigate, meaning no content can be accessed. See here. Working with January Firmware, see here. A workaround has been found for other firmware, see here and here.
15. Teagan: Sexual Freak 2 (Adult), USA HD-DVD - Playback gets stuck in opening loop and menu won't appear, pressing Skip starts the loop over again. See here.

19. La Vie En Rose (La Môme), French HD-DVD - Original Pressings: The BH200 tries to read it for about a minute then the Player shuts down, see here.
Remastered Pressings: The BH200 now reads it fine, however menu navigation is still impossible meaning you cannot select anything except Play (Audio and Subtitles can be changed using the remote control), see here and here. There is also a Blu-ray Disc, it's not known if this works.

3. Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2, USA BDs - The menu will not load when the BH200 is set to 1080P24 (Film Mode On), in all other display modes it is fine. Some have reported waiting and pressing the Menu button a few times works and others have reported clearing the BD Flash memory also fixes this. See here, here and here.
4. Madagascar, USA BD: "Loading" appears, the screen then goes black. The menu does not appear. See here and here. One user has reported it works fine, here.
5. Nine Inch Nails: Beside You In Time, USA HD-DVD - The TrueHD 5.1 outputs as 2 channel, see here, here and here.
6. Planet Earth: Complete Series, UK HD-DVD - All discs show the menu background but no options and navigation is impossible. See here and here. All other Planet Earth Blu-ray or HD-DVD Discs seem fine. The issue only affects the UK HD-DVD and the March, April or June Firmware (November and January firmware is fine). See here, here and here.
7. Shooter, USA HD-DVD - The menu loads but navigation is impossible and pressing Play causes the time to read 00000 but it doesn't advance past this, see here and here. Two users have reported it works fine, see here and here. Working with January Firmware, see here.
8. Wyatt Earp, USA HD-DVD - Extras don't work, an error occurs and the disc is ejected. See here and here. It's unknown if the Blu-ray disc exhibits the same problems.

Firmware BH02080402F - 2008-04-02:
Unless it says otherwise, titles have not been tested with other firmware!

1. Bridge to Terabithia, French HD-DVD - The menu only half appears making navigation impossible and because of this the movie cannot be played. See here.
2. Cloverfield, USA BD: The movie plays fine but the Easter egg "Military Cast" has jerky video. See here.
3. Enemy at the Gates (aka Stalingrad in France), French HD-DVD - The HD/BD lights flash trying to see which one it is, it's then spat out after 2 minutes, see here, here and here. It seems there was a Faulty Batch and a replacement disc should fix it, see here.
4. Fearless, UK HD-DVD - The menu loads fine and works but you cannot see the text so it's hard to navigate. However the Scenes, Languages and Bonus menus don't work. You can change subtitles using the remote. See here and here.
5. Die Fledermaus, UK/USA HD-DVD - The menu loops and navigation is impossible, see here.
6. Galapagos, USA BD - The disc spins for about 3 minutes, it then ejects and displays a "disc error" message. See here. The USA HD-DVD works fine, see here.

This is fantastic, thanks for the posting. I was wondering why no one was posting. There is a February review over at "Sound and Vision" which says they had no problem discs too but I prefer to hear from end-users.


I hope LG are also working out what to do with TrueHD when outputted out of Optical/Coaxial. If I buy an LG BH200 (which is looking likely) for the first few months I won't be able to take advantage of TrueHD at Full Resolution so will need someway to hear Discrete 5.1 from it.

I'm not bothered if LG make the BH200 be able to pick up the Hidden DD5.1 track of convert TrueHD to DD5.1 but as long as I don't have to get 2 Channel unless I use the HDMI output (which my current Amp does not have).

Long term I will buy an Amp though so it doesn't worry me "too" much.


I'm not sure how to take this one. I'm sure it's a problem but then I think there is not a Player on the market that gets 100% perfect reports. My LCD TV supposedly has some kind of picture problem yet I've not once noticed it. I cannot even remember what the problem is supposed to be.


Right now this doesn't affect me as I don't have a 1080p TV but you'd think LG would be able to fix this. It seem 100% of users have it so it must be easy to replicate in labs and easy to fix too.


Me too. I've wait since January 2007 (when the BH100 was released) to buy my first HD Player and actually be able to playback my BD/HD-DVDs. I've waited this long I can definitely wait until May.

I always said I only want a Combo Player so have patiently waited until a Player comes that once I buy one I'll be able to play all movies and will last me years. I am also currently skint too and whatever you buy they're not cheap (except for HD-DVD Players which never interested me).

Right now what is ultimately stopping me buying a LG BH200 is the things the Infamous Firmware promises + TrueHD 2 Channel only. Once those are fixed I'll buy it.

Agreed. I don't suppose there is any way you could try Sunshine? It's caused problems in both Samsung and LG Combo Players.

The European BD is only Profile 1.0 and has no PIP features, unlike the USA BD (which came out later) and has PIP/Profile 1.1. I am thinking as it's not the same disc (i.e - a clone) it's probably authored differently.


There could be but we'll never know until someone/some members are able to test the same disc on an American and European player.

That Terminator 2 German HD-DVD SE looks out of this world. I'll be getting that too. I'm hoping they release a BD though.

Is that an audio "drop out" or something else? I am not sure it's worth mentioning "audio drop outs" as the player has that problem generally speaking. What are users thoughts on this?

I didn't realise you meant "drop outs" (I thought you said out of sync?). I'm not sure it's worth mentioning drop outs in the list, as that's a general problem with the player. What are your thoughts whether they should be included?
