Discs the LG BH200 has problems with - Page 22

you can try the home remedy ... run the HD DVD under hot water (hot as you can get from the tap but not boiling) then wipe clean with a soft cloth...

it sometime helps with new HD DVDs... Not sure why but worth a try.

Thanks Anna.

I've add Galapagos to the April/June lists and Brave One to the June list.

Thanks.

Does this method work for other Hotel Babylon owners?

I just tried Planet Earth last night and I didn't have any problems. Now, I have the UK version (Attenborough), but I bought it from Amazon in the US. I wonder if it's UK-purchased discs that is causing the problem...then again, maybe that's what this post is all about and I'm just confused.
How about something new. How about discs that the BH200 shouldn't be able to play but can? Specifically, the BH200 can play the PAL extras on the Assembly UK Blu-ray. I was pleasantly surprised to see this. Just some good news instead of the usual doom'n'gloom.
Even after the 0602 firmware update, still having problems with BATMAN BEGINS playing hitch-free! It doesn't freeze like before, but it does have on screen glitching and pixel breakup.
I cannot get my Wolf Creek HDDVD (bought at a Canadian Best Buy) to play at all. I had the April firmware and it would not play and have upgraded to the June firmware and am getting the exact same problem.

I just get a blue screen and the message "This movie will not play due to the parental setting of the player". Then I pulled out my Toshiba HD-D3 and tried Wolf Creek and it played without a hitch. The parental setting on my LG is set to "Unlocked".

I have also checked disc 2 of Face Off and Zodiac as there was unatural skipping/ and picture studdering on all of the extra's(with April firmware). I have now checked these titles to see if the June firmware fixes this issue and although improved and not as obvious, there is still some weird motion lag on the talking heads on both of these movies extra's.

It is only the UK bought Planet Earth that is problematic, it is a completely different authoring and has an extra disc.

If you bought it from Amazon.com and it wasn't a Marketplace seller it's likely you have the USA not UK HD-DVD, which has been confirmed to work fine.

How many discs does it have? If 4 then it's the USA set, if 5 then it's the UK set.

Any Player that support PAL will play the Assembly UK BD's SD PAL extras, which counts the Samsung Combo out.

Feel free to start a new list though . Personally I don't think it's necessary.

This is an anomaly with the disc and LG BH200. Others have been able to get it working by chasing the Parental Code to US or was it USA I forget. There is talk of it back in previous pages.

With lots of running around! When the main menu starts (this is about Hotel Babylon on HD DVD), pushing *any* number on the keypad plus "enter" will take you to episode one. From there you skip-track your way to the other 2 episodes on each disc. Fortunately, the closing credits on each episode are chapters, so the next track after seeing the closing credits is the beginning of the next episode. Subtitles and commentary available from the audio and subtitle keys on the remote. Since the extra features are all in SD, just flip over the discs and play them from the SD side (these are combo discs). Of course, your player must be set to all-regions if bought in the States and your TV must be able to handle PAL, or use another SD player that will convert.

I only put up with all this drudgery because the entire series 1 only cost me
£4.99 at HMV. Bleak House was a similar bargain but menus play perfectly. I have Robin Hood on order... Let's hope and see!

The USA HD-DVD is also the Extended Cut, whereas the UK HD-DVD/BD is the Theatrical Cut and also Region B locked.

Argh. While I'm still on the May firmware, I can definitely confirm the problem on the UK version of PE (I purchased the set through Amazon.co.uk).

Has anyone found a way to get the discs to play beyond the initial title screen? (short of reverting back to January firmware)

Note that I have the Canadian version of the BH200, so it's not that UK players were supposed to stay away from the May firmware. May was definitely released for our player...and Planet Earth UK (HD DVD) doesn't play.

Firmware: BH02080402F
Driver: 0702
Canadian BH200, no regional tweaks
UK version of Planet Earth (*not* the BBC version sold in Canada, but the 5 disc version from the UK)

BTW, on the first page of this thread, please emphasize that these still don't work. I took the "fixed in January" to mean the problem was solved. D'oh. It's most clearly *not* fixed. Perhaps note that it's a "January only" situation. Thanks.

Yes it works. Please add this to the first page. The same method does NOT work for the other discs I listed though.

Robin hood can start playback on chapter one by pressing enter. The menus are completely unusable.

Planet Earth UK, UFO Worldwide and Pans Labyrinth UK HDDVDs cannot get to the main feature at all. LG really should fix these menu problems; unlike freezes and hiccups these problems are very easy to replicate and definitely a result of an incomplete/buggy HDDVD firmware.

I've add Galapagos to the April/June lists and Brave One to the June list.

Just for information, the UK HDDVDs of Galapagos and Brave One are fine.

I have a copy of UK American Gangster HDDVD, will test it tomorrow.

That explains it. I have the 4-disc version with Attenborough. I wish I had the 5-disc set...anything good on there? Please PM me and let me know if this is worth getting...loved that series.

Thanks for the clarification Brad.

There is no May firmware. I think you mean April firmware (2nd of April).

It's in the April and June problem disc list and says it's fixed with January firmware, they work fine with that firmware. I'll change wording to "Working" from "Fixed" though.

Planet Earth is a confusing one to list as:

UK HD-DVD: Works with the January firmware but not other firmware
UK BD: Works fine with all firmware
USA HD-DVD: Works fine with all firmware
USA BD: Works fine with all firmware (presumably)

Have you tried selecting chapters manually, using the Skip button?

No worries.

I don't know sorry. I don't own it period. I cannot find a UK review but here's what's extra:

Thanks guys, yes I have got my Wolf Creek to play. I changed CA to US......and it plays fine. I did do a search of this thread using Wolf Creek and the only info I got was that people got it to play by "hitting enter". I am happy it is working and won't be taking any cross country road trips in Australia w/o a machine gun.

I actually didn't own Wolf Creek. I do now. It displays the menus on loading then they disappear and don't come back. This one sticks in opening loop like Clerks II, Babysitters, etc.

Please add the Wolf Creek HD DVD to the problem list.

Have you tried changing it to US in the country list?

I don't believe it causes any harm doing this, even if you don't live in America. Unless you enable Parental control I imagine.

My USA Weinstein copy of Wolf Creek works fine. (So does my copy of Clerks 2)

Are you saying you can now skip chapters on Robin Hood? It sounds like you can with the June firmware but not April:

I remember that's why I've no added it now. I don't want to add titles that work for as many as they don't.

I'm also reluctant to add titles which have a suitable workaround to get them working because in both cases the list would grow ridiculously bigger than it already is. I've added Hotel Babylon and will add Robin Hood though, so other users know of the workaround.

Krobar, what BH200 do you have? Do you have one where LG accidentally put a Toshiba player inside of it? A lot of us have issues with Wolf Creek and Clerks 2.

Brav, I'll change my country and region back tomorrow and let you know. (HD DVD's are supposed to be region free!)

There LG BH200s sent out with Toshiba drives, really? How is that possible? Toshiba have never supported BD.

You don't need to touch the region, just change the "parental code" to US. It's a bug on the disc where it actually looks at the parental code set. The disc is region free.

Thanks btw.
