Sony Handycam DCR-DVD203

I am borrowing one from a friend right now and am having some trouble.

To get the video on my computer and to where I can edit it in Windows Movie Maker, I have to go through a long process of converting the DVD files to .wmv so I can put it in WMM. For decent quality video, it takes 1.5 hours for 15 minutes of footage. I KNOW there has to be an easier way then the 3rd party program I am using.

Also, whenever I hook the camera up and just directly watch the video, it's not widescreen. I know I recorded in widescreen but it plays at scrunched 4:3. It's fine almost when I convert it, because I can put it in letterbox, but the highest resolution I can do it like 720x480. Is that the highest resolution .wmv can go? I am learing Adobe Premier, so I think I can go to different file types. Just need to be able to load it onto youtube.

Thanks for any help

Well as far as I know 720x480 seem to be the highest resolution with .wmv formate.

What formats will keep the 16:9 ratio? It's fine if I load it up on youtube, but I tried to play it on my big screen and it wouldn't even do letterbox.

I have the adobe premier editor, so I don't have to use .wmv
