Referring to my previous post I updated the 5000 to firmware version 1.1. To test the stability of this new firmware I went and rented probably the only BluRay DVD left in the store that I have not seen: 30 Days of Night, an awful film to say the least. But, hey, at least I am doing my bit as an early adopter.
However, I had problems with the DVD using version 1.1, so I rolled back to version 1.0. and had a much more pleasurable viewing experience. Below is a summary of the issues I had with 30 Days of Night:
v1.1 - main menu - had to scroll sideways then down to get to "Scene Selection" from "Play movie" i.e. could not scroll directly down from "Play movie"
v1.0 - main menu - could scroll directly down from "Play movie" to "Scene Selection"
v1.1 - When I selected 'Scene Selection", I would get a click and the DVD would default to the beginning of the movie i.e. it kicked me out of "Scene Selection" not allowing to select this option at all
v1.0 - I was able to use "Scene Selection" as intended
v1.1 - From Chapter 11, the movie stuck (hung) and I was unable to progress without switching off the power. This happened 2x at 2 different spots in/around Chapter 11 and was the cause of me trying the roll back to v 1.0
v1.0 - no playability problems from Chapter 11 onwards.
So, it appears that v1.1 has introduced variables not present in v1.0. Given that I have not had (significant) problems with 1.0 I am probably going to leave my machine at 1.0 until v1.2 comes out.
