8 Months and Finally Done Theater!!! THANKS TO AVS

So it only took 8 months, and a lot of reading from this forum to get to where I am with my dedicated home theater. I did it all myself and I will just give you a quick rundown on what I did. I had an Uncle finish part of the basement for me, the bar area and the kids room. He only framed out the theater for me. The Theater is 14x20 with 7.5 feet of head room, due to the sofits that run down the middle, yes the dreaded HVAC system. I won't have any before pictures, just after pictures. Before I did any drywall I had the electrician run two dedicated 15amp breakers, one for my projector and one for all the equipment. Next came the dry wall, I only used 1/2 inch but I did do two layers with green glue inbetween. The first layer I also sealed all the seams with acoustic caulk and lead tape, then added the second layer with green glue. I only added insulation to the joist in the ceiling, I did not have time or patients to hang risc clips so the insulation would have to do. On two of the walls I bought some foam tape from soundproofing somthing web site, you add the foam tape to every other stud and it was supposed to give you a semi-double studed wall effect. So you hang your drywall on the foam tape and not the other studs, it kind of just floats on the foam tape. Anyway that was about it for room isolation and it turned out darn good. So on two the rest of the room. I bought 8 berkline 088 seats, one is configured like a love seat and then two normal chairs on the outside. The last four are in two sets on a 7 foot x 14 foot by 7inch riser. I did the screen with something I found on the diy screen thread. Wilsonart DW laminate screen at 110 or so inches. Speakers I have 3 SVS SC-01M speakers up front and the SVS SB-01's as surround. Sub duty I have an SVS SB12-plus/2 the seems to preasurize this 2100 cubic foot room very very very nicely As for the rest of the equipment Panasonic PTAE 1000U ceiling mounted. Onkyo sr-705 with a Toshiba HDa35 hd-dvd player a Panasonic BD30 Blueray player and an Xbox 360. I have dedicated surge and filter outlets for the projector and the sub, and I have a power center for the equipment.

I will post some pictures soon... But there is no way I could have done this without this Forum... I still can't believe how good it turned out... and the icing on the cake is..... either can my wife..

Thank you again AVS members!!!

Pics, we need Pics

Did you take pics during the construction phase?

I would love to see how you did your screen, I just ordered my wilsonart laminate screen.

Clark,
Looking for pics also.
Just a quick note someone told me when I first started posting. With a post that long start a couple new paragraghs with space in between. It's much easier to read. (especially for a guy like me that needs reading glasses.

Thanks and looking forward to pics.

What kind of acoustic panels did you use? Are those DIY or pre-made? Hard to tell from the pics-did you treat the front wall too? Bass traps?

Great job! I like the colors as well.

Where did you get the wall-mounted glass racks - the ones you have glasses hanging upside down in with the bottles on top? Those would fit in well over my bar...

Thanks everyone, The bar was framed by my uncle and my wife and I stained everything and put it all together, we had the granite company put that on of course.

As far as Acoustic panels they are DIY except for the GIK Tri-traps in the front two corners... I used OC 703 1inch and 2inch.

I will try and get a better picture of the entire front. With everything black it's hard to make things out. But I will do my best.

I picked up the wall mounted glass racks at Target...

Thanks again for the compliments.. I got a lot of inspiration from all of you.

Craig, you spent some time on your theater... very very nice. Love the wood work, I was looking to do something like that, but I wanted to get in there and start watching some movies, maybe version 2.0 after the kids are older....

Almost missed, queendvd2 I did not treat the front wall, well I kinda did. The screen covers most of the front wall. I had about a 1 1/2 feet from the edge of the screen to where the Gik Tri-Trap ended. So I hung a 1 foot by 4 foot 2 inch DIY OC 703 next to the screen on each side. What worked out well was that the Front right and left speaker are right in front of them.

Thank you for the compliment, and the Tri Traps fit so perfectly up front... Before all the sound panels and tri traps... the room was so reflective, a clap would ring and ring. Now with everything in there, it is awsome, and it sounds spectacular.... I am pondering if I should hang a sound panel on the ceiling above the center speaker.... It is mounted above the screen and pointed down towards the front seats... I guess it couldn't hurt.

Yeah, they were a good deal, and they do look nice.... Now the big project is to get some color on the walls in the Game/Bar area.

That is going to happen soon, I'll post some more pictures of the progress.. and beer consumption as I get around to doing it... I have family coming to visit soon and I want to get everything looking nice..
