Thanks.

Mark

I have a S500.... But I am still within the return window.

Shamus,

I want me to shut up about it, too.

I know the composite video out while 1080P24 is engaged via HDMI is a small thing for most, but I rely on that darn composite 480i feed!!! All my other BD players do it, but the Denon manual says the 3800 will NOT do it... I just hope the Denon manual is incorrect.

Thanks for putting up with my harping!

I DID have the plasma set to "Pure Cinema Advanced" mode, but someone had changed the "AV selection" to "Standard", which didn't allow the handshake via HDMI. I reset the AV selection to "Pure" and 1080p/24 was available for selection in the 3800's setup menu.

The increase in picture quality was substantial. Images were much more 3-dimensional and colors were more natural.

At this point, a VERY happy 3800 owner.

Thanks to others for suggesting that there must be some setup goof that didn't allow me to access the 1080p/24.

More reports to follow.

Lee

You're welcome.

Good point. I think I will be able to test this when I get my 3800, since my PJ accepts 1080p60 only, but the Lumagen can accept 1080p24.

If anything it probably doesn't since Lee's was grayed out.

I think you are in the quick setup, Go to custom setup and it would change for me.

That was already taken care of in later post.

It doesn't matter which menu you're in, as long as you don't have the monitor set up correctly.

It's fine now, as I edited my original post to reflect.

Thanks,

Having some issues with my player. It keeps powering off after about 5 minutes of play. I tried unplugging it for about 10 minutes but it keeps powering down after only a few minutes of play. So something is wrong.

anyone who ordered from abt should check their orders, ordered mine tues around 6pm
when it said in stock even before anyone mention it here. it said in stock i beleive till about the next day when i checked it when i got back from work, even spoke spoke to cs and they said mine was there and i would get the tracking info thurs. night when they shipped it,no info so i checked again and it said backorder, they gave me a bs story about how the site needs to update and what not and that there were orders ahead of mine (but from tues to thurs)they screwed up big time, never again would i order from these guys. i saw some people here ordered theirs after i had ordered mine and would like to know if im the only one that got screwed.
It seems like ABT did the same bs with me over ordering an onkyo receiver not to long ago. An order with them is like playing craps... If the unit actually ships it is pure luck!

I ordered mine from ABT Wed very early AM and have a tracking # with delivery tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

This just bites! I'm green!

I preordered from J&R in January, and they still can't give me an ETA. Said try checking back mid-next-week. If I weren't on call this weekend, I'd probably call all the dealers in the Cities and take a drive, but it's a minimum seven hour round trip. If I get it by the 14th, I'll be happy as a clam, since I'm scheduled off work the following week.

Not to start a debate about this issue, but i know your image must be smoother at 24fps but it should not do anything for colors, less judder yes, but I find it odd somehow you find the colors improved.

The same thing happened to me. I ordered mine on Wednesday at 6:30 in the morning, checked later in the day and it was status "Processed and Moved to Shipping". 24 hours later and I had still not received an email with a tracking number so I got in touch with their on-line chat (sorry on-line BS) only to be told that it was on back-order. I have a copy of the whole "conversation" where she tried to tell me that it was on back order when I put in my order. I think I can tell the difference in spelling for In Stock and Backordered.

Apparently I am #5 on a list and only 2 are coming with the next shipment and no indication as to when the shipment after that will occur. To be honest to some extent I hold the OEMs responsible as it seems that they are supplying their authorized dealers only in dribs and drabs. At the moment, you can hardly get any blu-ray player from either Pioneer or Denon in the US (even the older models).

Thank you everyone so far for the feedback.

I'm looking for the performance of the Realta chip in particular:

Is there a way to turn it ON/OFF for A/B comparisons?
Is there a significant improvement in PQ?

Any info you have about purchasing the Denon 3800 blu-ray player for a good deal would be appriciated. Thank you.

I got mine from a brick and morter dealer in Santa Monica, he had four i was lucky to get one of two that hadnt been presold, small dealer, even Magnolia doesn't have any till next week

I just got my 7.1 cables, and hdmi to dvi, and about 12 blue ray movies and am happily hooking it up, i am so excited, i love denon, they make amazing players. I hope this blows away my XA-2.

Ime connecting it to isf calbrated Mitsubishi diamond 65 inch rptv gives amazing cinematic picture on my XA-2, and my sony es 5000 using 7.1 analog outs. Want to be blown away audio and video.

I want to watch my bollywood movies upconverted
post #83 of 6642
Dealers like ABT and JR don't usually charge your credit card until the item ships. So they have as much motivation as you (probably more) to move the product quickly.
A list at ABT means nothing. I was supposably #2 on it before and the next thing I knew everyone was getting them except me. I called in there and got them to admit there really is not a list and they were going by alphabetical order. I canceled immediately and told them where to go. Besides, they wanted to charge me tax on top of my order because I am a state away...

Back on topic, I should have my unit in a few hours and can't wait. Looks like it is going to be one busy day...

This is the most amazing hdm device ever. I have NEVER seen a hidef picture like this, with equally phenomenal audio. I have just watched portions of two movies Casino Royale and Fly Boys, and i am speechless. I have never seen my tv look so god. The color palette seems to be "expanded" compared to my XA-2 and image rendition is just notches above anything thing i have seen on blue ray on hd dvd before. I am so glad i spent the money to get this player

The image is surreal, it is so film like , it is like that feeling when you watch a movie is a panoramic theatre large screen, it is so clear , sharp resolute, colors so bang on, it almost seems like there is an extra layer of processing on the image, i loved my reon on my XA-1, this is just a whole different image quadrant. I have seen blue ray on a Samsung and Pioneer, this is simply a level apart. Truly stunning chip, the image quality is just 3d filmlike like i have never seen on any hd dvd. I am truly impressed with this player.

The sound is very encompassing and "loud" compared to my other hdm players in true denon quality, which i expected.

This is the player to get, it makes the few movies i have seen bits of just want to make you keep watching them. I bought 16 movies in one day, quite a fortune, i have never done that for hd dvd.

Denon you have hit a home run with this player i just love it.

Only complaint it is one basic and ugly unit, I hate the remote , no backlite, buttons too small and cluttered, and they only give you three rca cables, not even a cheap hdmi cable. That sucks, after spending$2000 on the unit. The unit is very plain, however, i can live with that , it is the spectacular images we love.

I thought i would hate blue ray, i bought into it grudgingly, this denon has truly lifted my spirits and enthusiasm for the format.

Calikarim, what's the build quality of the tray?
The build qualtiy of tray is very "plasticy" , seems flimsy not very sturdy, however it is very quiet and loads flawlessly, i just think this is a nature of the beast of most dvd players not a shortcoming of denon, i just jiggled the front of the tray and it seems almost a little loosely attached to the actual tray, i can live with it though.

The discs boot up extremely fast and menus load up flawlessly, i have not had one glitch.

The unit is also extremely quiet, you cant hear a sound except when the tray kicks into position, extremely quiet unit.

U will hate the remote it is horrible..
I also want to rave about the pcm sound from the 7.1 channels, i havent played with the settings just the default ( i have yet to play a 7.1 dts hd disc) , it is truly like being in the middle of a theatre, the sound is just so full and distinct in all its various components, it is almost like a rainbow of melodies and voices, and special effects, all together but you can hear the different constituents of the sound.

SInce my receiver doesn't have hdmi, i spent $1400 on my sony es 5000 two .years ago and it has the usual optical, digital, but luckily has 7.1 analog input. That is the reason i bought this unit, rather than the playstation, i am so glad i did though, but damn this picture is like a "VISUAL HIGH", just so 3d hidef, like what i expected hd dvd and blue ray to be , when i bought into the format

You are probably right, however it is still very frustrating and annoying to have it indicated as In Stock and then be told it is back ordered. As I said in a previous post I blame OEMs like Denon as much as dealers by not giving them clear delivery dates and amounts, so that the dealers can be more informed. I do however think that dealers such as ABT, JRR, One Call, etc. paint a very optomistic picture of supply in order to bait the potential buyer.
