Please feel free to start posting your favorite screenshots!

I would suggest you reserve at least two posts and no more than three to present all your setup information and a nice set of your favorites.

Remember this is mostly for fun and entertainment. It may also help some of our friends convince their better halves to grant permission to start spending and implementing. Pssss . . . be sure to include a few screenshots that your spouse appreciates, you know, a couple of good ones of Russel Crow or whoever rings their bells.

Something like this may help:

I have included some very basic instructions on how to take screenshots. However if there is a knowledgeable photographer type out there who can suggest the exact prodedure to setup a camera to take honest representative photographs of a projected image I would like to in include that information in the Photography Instructions For Taking Screenshots post. Unfortunately the thread is already past that post so you will need to post your instructions here and I will include them with full credit to the author.

So if there is anyone out there who knows the proper way to manually setup a dgitial camera to take accurate screenshot photos please share that information with the members by contributing some instructions.

I have included some simple instructions on how to post screen shots from the AVS galleries. Click here to see that explanation.

That post also makes reference to websites that provide photo hosting services. I will now work on some reference information pertaining to some of the more common resources available.

I have completed the instructional posts in the DIY Screenshot Showcase thread. It is no longer under construction.

This companion thread is intended to provide a place to ask questions or post comments regarding the showcase submissions.

Have fun!

I guess I should not assume that people who have implemented Black Widow, laminate, BOC, S-I-L-V-E-R . . . etc screens, understand that the DIY Screenshot Showcase thread was set up for ALL types of DIY screens; Black Widow, S-I-L-V-E-R, Laminate, whatever you have done and are proud of. The idea is to showcase the possibilities and drop some equipment names and models. It's your opportunity to use your experiences and screenshots to encourage others to jump in and try something.

I can't believe that kbgl and leftovers50 are the only DIYers out there proud of their accomplishments and eager to show them off to encourage others to join in the fun.

Hey bidzer! you have shown some of the finest screenshots I have ever seen, second only to maybe Clarence's "Designer White" screen shots. How about posting a few to the DIY Screenshot Showcase thread. Afraid Clarence is going to show you up!

If enough people show some interest and contribute to this showcase I am sure we could persuade prof55 to make it a sticky. What better way to get people interested in the DIY Screens world than to show off your pride and joy.

Let's make this a non-partisan sanctuary for everyone to enjoy.

Just remember if you see something you want to comment on do it in this discussion thread. The idea is to keep the showcase as clean as possible. One post full of dazzling screenshots after another until the newbie can't help themselves. They will be rushing out to find some Auto-Air Aluminum and/or a sheet of Designer White by the droves. Do your part for the North American economy and post those eye watering screen shots.

( ( ( Clarence! HELP! ) ) ) )

Please help us get this off the ground and post some of that eye candy you are so famous for! Pretty Please with sugar on top!

PhotoBucket has recently added some comprehensive image editing tools.

One thing I have taken advantage of lately is the resizing tool. My original photograph may be 1600 x1200 or larger. I could use the thumbnail link from the "generate HTML and IMG code" tool in PhotoBucket:

But the thumbnail image is quite small so you have to click it and look at the larger image. Another approach is to resize it in Photobucket to 640x480 and save a copy. This will result in a second smaller image file that has a file name that ends with "-1.jpg". Then you can simply modify the thumbnail link by looking for "th_IMG_8565.jpg" in this case and change it to "IMG_8565-1.jpg". The result is this:

Doing this will provide an image that is big enough to see clearly and yet the browser will still load the page fairly quickly. If the viewer wants to see the larger original they can still click on the image.

This can be time consuming so here is a faster method. If you have a photo editer that can do bulk editing then resize all the images to 640x480 and place them in a separate directory called small/ or thumbs/. Then create a sub folder in PhotoBucket and use the bulk uploader to upload all the 640x480 images to the small/ sub folder.

then modify the thunmbnail link by finding the "th_IMG_8565.jpg" and replace it with "small/IMG_8565.jpg". I actually would copy the thumbnail links into a text editer and do a replace to find and replace all the "th_" strings with "small/". The result is the same:

It is just much easier than manually doing this for a large number of image files. In this case my small images were 800x600.

My screenshot photos are inconsistent. A few days ago I took some from a Harry Potter movie on tv, and they all looked really green. The other shows that I took pictures of did not have this problem. I think I read somewhere that some scenes in movies are lit with blue light to make the scenes look like night time. I wonder if this has some strange effect on the camera when taking a screen shot.
