So what's the next great Shooter for PS3?

I was a big SOCOM fan on PS2. Now I play COD4 and I like it a lot, but I am starting to get bored with it. The game is great, don't get me wrong, but it seems like you run through the same 2-3 maps because you have to keep finding new rooms due to the Host-End issue.

I know SOCOM: Confrontation is on the horizon, but is there anything else? Maybe RFoM 2?

What shooter are you all looking forward to?

I'm a 37 year old fart, father and husband who works long hours so I don't have a lot of time to research games and I also don't want to buy a bunch of games that I will never end up playing so the information you give me will be very helpful.

Is it 1st or 3rd person? I've heard good things about the last installment but have never played any of them.

In the near future: RB6 Vegas 2, SOCOM and Haze - In the distant future: RFoM2 and Killzone 2

Of all the title that I listed, Killzone 2 is my most anticipated FPS of the year. I keep seeing screen shots and trailers that look absolutely amazing. If anyone of these titles deliver as advertised, COD4's king of the hill status maybe in jeopardy.....maybe

KillZone I played on my PS2 before I got SOCOM 2. I really liked that game. If I recall it was off line game play only. I think I heard KillZone 2 will have online Multiplayer which is most important for me. I will have to look out for that one.

Condemned 2. Sort of a shooter.

KillZone was one of the first games I started playing online. Even though people put the original KZ down I logged quite a few hours on this title.

That's correct, KillZone 2 will be multi-player, 16 player I believe. Check out the trailer on Sony's site, it's pretty impressive, I only hope that this game can live up to its hype.

I would have to say SOCOM Confrontation is what I am looking forward to the most, although I have not looked into the online portion much, Metal Gear Solid 4 is another I am looking forward to. Both games are a few months away yet though.

It's funny because I could not get enough of SOCOM 3 and CA on PS2. Then I got my PS3 and for a while, I continued playing that while waiting for COD4. After getting COD4, I tried to go back and play SOCOM a few times because a few on my buddies didn't have their PS3s yet; I could not play it. It was like play Donkey Kong on Atari. I also was tired of all the glitching. Can't wait for SOCOM on PS3.

I know it's going to be awesome to see it in HD, the latest screen shot of it looks sweet.

What about "Battlefield: Bad Company"... Big Maps.. 16 players w/vehicles including Apaches and Abrams, the abiltiy to laser designate a target for a missle strike and call in artilery support. I really looking forward to this. I've read that March 24 is supposed to be the release date.

Even with a completely useless story and despite only being like 6 hrs long, Black was pretty awesome.

It's going to be really hard to beat CoD4. Maybe Resistance 2 will do it, but it'll be a tough fight. It'll really be a long time before an FPS game comes out that can surpass CoD4 in terms of multiplayer features, graphics, and gameplay.

The only way a game could beat CoD4 in the foreseeable future would be to focus on a single-player and co-op story mode (in the vein of Bioshock). That might be Haze, but there've been so few details lately about what this game is about or how it plays. It's anyone's guess at this point.

You should give Team Fortress 2 a try. It's one of the best FPS I have ever played.

People keep knocking it though b/c "the graphics are cartoonish" but it really has some of the most balanced game play considering there are 9 completely different classes.

Very much agreed. TF2 is by far the most balanced shooter I have every played. And I love the art direction. Watching a Scout get blown to bits by my sticky bombs is very satisfying.

I don't necessarily know if I'd throw Vegas 2 in the "great" category. I think the next slam dunk great shooter for the PS3 is going to be Resistance 2. But I honestly hope Killzone lives up to all the hype too. So far graphically it looks like it's taking it to the next level. Hopefully the gamplay does as well.

Lag free dedicated servers for Resistance 2 is a big plus for me, something many non Sony titles don't have.
