can i run two different video cards at once?

Hello all.

In building my new HTPC I'm using a XFX nvidia GeForce 8600gt. In my old rig I have an ATI all-in-wonder x600 PRO. I was wondering can I use both in my new HTPC at the same time, the purpose being to utilize only the a/v inputs, outputs, and cable tuner in the ATI card. The 8600 would be the only one used to actually output a picture.

I'm imagining this could cause issues abound but it would be nice not to have to purchase new i/o cards. On that note, if i do have to go the route of a new i/o card, does anyone know of a card which has several a/v inputs on it? I would like to be be able to input other external audio and a/v devices to take advantage of the scaling capabilities and audio processing.

Thanks, Craig

yes its possible. Used to run an Agp cArd and a PCI one. Just have to have a place to put them on the motherboard. Which will probably be a problem if ones PCI xpress and one is agp.

Soon with the new chipset motherboards, it will be possible to utilize two or even three/four gps in the same pcs, not just for inputs but for performance!

In Vista AFAIK you can only use multiple graphics cards as long as the use the same driver which is not the situation with the OP.
I don't know if the same is true in XP.

Yes, if your motherboard has the appropriate sockets. The cards do not have to use the same chipset or driver.
