Tuning a home theater system?

Hi there, I'm trying to get this systems levels, delays, equalizers, etc in check.
I was hoping you guys would be able to help guide me through tuning this system myself, I know little about it at this point.
I do have a dB meter, the radio shack 33-2055.

System specs as follows:
Sony 777ES
Paradigm CC-470
Monitor 9's
PW-2200
Atom rears

Thanks!

It is pretty simple. You need a test tone (I assume your Sony ES will have this, look in your manual) to play out of each speaker one at a time.

The goal is to have the db meter read the same for all each speaker when playing to test tone.
Simply match each level using the speaker level adjustments (also covered in your manual).

The Radio shack meters are off by a bit when it comes to subs (bass is harder to measure), look around and see if you can find the correction factor for your meter. My advice is to set your sub where you like the sound on music/movies (with your test tones the sub may read 3-10db down after you find a spot wher you like it, this is normal don't worry about it).

It is really worth the work

Have fun!

You really want to tune your system and your room automatically with the equipment you already have?

Google EQ Room Wizard.

Where do I place the db meter while reading the tones? directly in front of the speaker? on the couch?

what is EQ wizard? looks cool, do I need any additional special equipment?

As close to your listening position as you can get it. I use a camera tripod to hold the db meter right where my head would be at. One nice thing on my Pioneer Elite is that I can program/memorize/set for different positions weather I'm on the couch, recliner, or any other of 3 places in the room.

Thought this might be an appropriate place to ask..all of my DSP's on my Yamaha have delay times (in miliseconds) that you can adjust. basically adjusts the time the sounds get to you between the front and rear. What's a good way to set these delay times?
