Small size sub recommendation needed for smal HT

I'm looking for a sub for my small HT (see sig.). I'm planning to put the sub at the corner behind my couch. now, the problem is, I don't have much space there; therefore, the biggest I could put there is about 14x14x14!

I'm currently thinking either the SVS SB12+ or the Def Tech SuperCubeI. I don't need very loud bass, but I do want low deep and tight bass!

which one would you guys recommend and better match my system? (I'm leaning towards the SB12+ even tho I could probably get the SuperCubeI at 'bout the same price....)

TIA!

Either of those would probably do well. If you really want your HT to rock, you might see if you could fit an SVS cylinder sub. They're 16" diameter, and should give more impact and a lot more deep extension for movies. Don't get me wrong, the SB12+ and SuperCube I are both well regarded, but put something like a 20-39 PC+ in there and I think some movies will absolutely blow you away . Even a 20-39 PCi should give a significantly better "HT" experience.

Great room, BTW! Looks awesome . With a good sub, that room should make you never want to go to a theater again.

tks for the reply and compliment!

yeah, I thought 'bout SVS's cylinder sub, but no, I dont' have 16" foot print space at the back.... and that's why I'm thinking either the SB12+ or the SuperCubeI. depends on which one is better for movie and will go lower, deeper.

I'll probably have to leave that particular advice to someone else. I don't have experience with either the SC1 or the SB12+. My assumption would be that either would do a good job. Looking at your room, I'm guessing the sub is going behind the chair? If not, I'd like to know exactly where you're trying to put it. Though the SB12+ and SC1 will be pretty good, I really do think if it's possible to move things enough to get even a couple more inches, an SVS cylinder would give a far more theatrical experience. Obviously you should do what works for you, but IMO it's worth trying to move things a couple inches if possible to get a far better HT sub.

As a side note, I'm curious how long that project has taken you. I really like the style of the room and I think it'll be a great place to sit back and enjoy a movie . I'd love to have a room like that sometime. Hopefully someday it'll happen. No matter the sub you end up with, I think you'll really enjoy your setup.

tks again! it took me around 6-8 weeks from start (cleaning up the room) till finish (without a couch to sit on tho. just construction.). but it's still not finished tho as you can see, looking for a sub now....

as you can see on my pics, I'm planning to put the sub in the right corner (facing the couch) behind the couch. the (right) door near the corner is the laundry room. so, if I put a 16" cylinder sub there, I won't be able to access the room. the other side of the corner is a slide glass door that open to the backyard. so, right corner behind the couch is the best location for me.

SVS has a free in home trial for the SB12 including shipping. If and only when my PB-10 dies this is a model I will really look at.

tks for the replies guys!

I think I'm going for the SuperCubeI. mainly b/c of the price that I got ('bout same price as the SB12+ vs $1200 retail!), and the resale value down the road. and with this response from Def Tech, I think I'll be happy with it in my small HT.

got some more +/-3 db response numbers from chet at def tech today, these might help landshark1 a little

BP7002: +/- 3db 25hz - 20,000 hz
BP7004: +/- 3db 27hz - 20,000 hz
BP7006: +/- 3db 29hz - 20,000 hz
SuperCube I: +/- 3db 20hz - 120 hz
SuperCube II: +/- 3db 25hz - 125 hz
SuperCube III: +/- 3db 29hz - 130hz

These measurements were taken with a microphone placed 1 meter away from
the front of the loudspeaker or subwoofer (which was placed on the
floor). There was no reflective sound from the walls. However, there
was a sound reflection from the floor.

Sounds good. Make sure to let us know what you think when you get it all set up and cranking

The Super cube may look better and sound good for music. But for Ht I'd probably try to fit cylinder. Pci 20-39 ultra for that much $$. Almost the same co$t?? Only 2" bigger. Much better for Ht maybe music also. Just a guess. But the Def tech will look better IMO. Small room a Ultra would give the wow factor. This guy's room rocks.

I agree, the SB12 is a great little sub, but it (nor any sub at this price and size) will have the low end output of the cylinders. The Cylinders are 16" and the SB12 is 14" that's not that much different and if if the scale of your picture is anywhere near correct it looks like you have enough space in the front right corner for either one.

I would place a SVS PC sub in the front left corner. This is an HT room and you need the umph that the PC will provide. It will take your HT to a whole new level.
