can the "crippled hd1000's" that are selling on ebay be fixed?

Thread Starter
I keep seeing this place on ebay selling hd1000's that have a board removed to prevent the taping of HD content or maybe they were just demo machines.
I have everything else that I need for this project
DTC100
dish 5000
modulator.
So if I got my DTC100 modded and ran the dish signal through the DTC100 to a HD1000...I could tape anything from the dish?OTA or sat as well?
Looks s thought the "crippled hd1000's" are selling for about $300.I would like to know if and how much to make one whole again. Thanks Gregg

From what I have seen, dont buy one, you wont get the part to make it whole

The real value of those machines is a parts bucket to keep the good ones you have running. Withour that board they are simply a mediocre HVS HiFi machine.

It does seem strange that you can't buy the board as a replacement part. It's undocumented and has little chance of being modified into something else.
