This is why I have plasma.

Well I tried changing some settings and it actually got rid of it. So thanks for your false info, and thinking Plasma is the answer.

What was described sounded much like the XBR4 smearing, and it was found that raising the brightness, or warming the panel up, reduced the smearing, which is why I recommended the change of settings, the cooler the LCD panel is, the slower the pixels untwist, so getting it warmer does make it respond faster. A 2ms response time has been shown to get rid of the smearing, but it is hard to get those fast response times on larger panels, so it might be a while before they are seen widely on large screen displays, Philips is the only manufacturer that has one and it tops out at 42 inches right now.

And if you look at any properly calibrated display, it isn't all that bright and is usually a bit dark, especially if it is ISF calibrated. (which wouldn't help the smearing problem) I don't like a super bright display, heck my cheap LCD monitor I am typing this on gives me eyestrain in a bright room.

(and that plasma bit at the end was me being sarcastic, and my fault for being too vague with my answer. If you look a few posts above mine, you would see someone make a similar remark about LCD, over a problem most deem a non issue, much like this smearing)

Well, I've had my 46a550 for about 10 days now and love it. I first used the 1499 settings, and thought they were great. Now, I'm on the later settings, and while I like them, I find myself using the standard mode more and more. I guess I just like a little more "pop" . But each to their own in that regard. I thought about setting the settings in the standard mode, but thought that I would just wait for cripsy, or whoever it was that was having their set programmed tonight, to post their settings and try them. Overall, I couldn't be happier, and owe a big thanks to you guys here for helping me reach this decision. Out till later tonight.

Philips response time is bogus... At least many HD sites have claimed this. It's not accurate according to them.

I'm just going by what bpmurr said, he said it has the best motion of any LCD he has seen (almost as good as the Panasonic 50pz85 plasma), so there is something to that claim, even if it is not accurate.

Why don't you call them back and see how far they are from your place? If they are not too far, ask if you could drop by and pick it up yourself.

Then I guess you just have to wait until Friday to get your hands on your tv.

so i got my other HDMi cable and two optical audio. Man, those optical audio cables are loose in their slots. I don't like that.
I will now have my philips dvp5982 player through HDMI (2) and my cox cable box (hdmi 1). My wii on component. An optical cable from cable box and tv to receiver and coaxial audio from dvd to receiver (no optical there). Geez I have a lot of wires.
oh, my laptop connects through the vga and the audio I decided is good to go through the receiver as analog.

Sweet.

What is the difference between the Samsung 46A530 and the Samsung 46A550?

They have the same retail price and was wondering what Samsung was up to.......?.....?...?

Has anyone seen the 530?
Just wanted to thank everybody for the info posted so far--calibration, cables, etc. All of your helpful posts helped me finally get off the HD fence. I clicked the "checkout" button today, so mine is on the way (46" + PS3). This is my first HDTV, and I'm so stoked! I'm still rockin' a Sony 32" tube from 2000, so this will be a massive change

awesome man, I actually was in the same position. I looked around this thread writing down info and went from my 26" regular tv I had for 1 year, before that was a 19" and now to this behemoth. I've had it for about 2 weeks and love it!

The 550 has over the 530

-Wiselink
-Nice swivel stand
-Matte finish

A few others I think, can't remember. If they are the same price go for the 550.

Everyone be very prepared for a major crap storm if the 530 turns out to have better pic quality and speaker sound than the 550. Overall the design is much better from the pics I have seen of the 530. Speakers are side shooting.

All the talk of the 46" makes me feel inferior. I could afford the 46", but the girlfriend thinks it's a bad idea.

I have the 40" in a bedroom right now, but it will eventually be a living room set once I move to my apartment. Should I just send the 40" back altogether and get the 46". It'd be so much bigger.

kangaroo bigger is always better my first 2 lcds were 42's and my last 2 have been 46's. My girlfriend last night was saying the 46 isn't as big as she had expected. Had I known that i would have pushed her to let me get the 52 one of the most common regrets people have when buying lcd's is not going bigger when they had the chance.

Man you guys are going to get me into trouble haha. What do you think Amazon will say? I've already returned one 40" for a dead pixel and now I'm going to want to return another one to get the 46"er.

They shouldn't care. Heck I'll be spending more money lol.

So everybody is totally in agreement that I should do it??

I wasted a lot of time trying to get the TV stand level until I put something under the front of the attached TV stand to prop it up. It might also work to move the TV farther back on the stand. Then it would sink evenly into the carpet.

Hmmm thanks. This makes sense. I'll see if pushing it back does anything.

I'm on the phone with them right now. I'll update you in a few.

All along I really wanted the 46" anyway. I shouldn't let women influence my decisions haha.

Oh and my birthday is coming up as well lol.

Sometimes, you need to put your foot down and say enough is enough (and then say hello to the couch).

Dude, as I read in another short thread here, you will regret getting a smaller Tv, esp if you can afford it. Go for it!
