"d550"?? Since this is a thread for the A550 and if that is what you're asking about, there is a huge (over 100 pages) forum thread specifically covering calibration of the LNxxxA550.

I took some pictures of my T-con board (http://imgur.com/PXt0xl&xMZug?full) but I have some questions. There is a ton of FHD60C4LV0.2 boards for sale but does the 2nd number make a difference? This website has many but they have different secondary numbers.

Which one is correct?

I had the clicking problem and called Samsung. They hooked me up with an authorized repair shop. The capacitors were fine and I had the T-Con replaced 7/1/10.

Part number BN81-01696A 8055821463

The TV was Purchased the 7/26/08

I have the clicking problem again and by the signs of the posts this problem is still persistent.

Anyone else going through this a second time?

UPDATE: Issue was power supply. I will not buy another Samsung

I thought I would Google the issue and found this

I don't know if this is legit

The t-con board did it! It looks as good a new. I'm still not buying another Samsung though.

GR_Tampa, so where did you end up purchasing your Tcon board, and the board swap fixed your visual distortion issues?
thanx

Hey guys, my 52 a550 just started to have a solid/ multi colored vertical bar going down the the screen, 2 weeks ago the bar was always a solid white bar, it then went away. well last night it came back and changed into a dynamic color depending what was being displayed on the tv. the right side of the bar is dead center on the tv,

i have read though some of the last pages talking about the t-con board going bad, i have searched around google a little bit finding similar cases but have not found a true answer.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great thanks

Hi Hkxyz,
This looks like what happened to my 37 inch Samsung, at least the banding, mine was all the way on the right hand-side and was multicolored, almost looked like interference and progressively got worse over time, it is now completely screwed up and inoperable. Ended up my LCD is defective and not under warranty as I had it tested by a professional for $75. I would suggest contacting an authorized Samsung repair center near you and have them run diagnostics on it. My results were not economical to repair and I now have the State Attorney Consumer affairs division contacting Best Buy and Samsung to repair it or replace it under the Maine Implied Warranty Law. What a headache this TV was just under 3 years old and rendered useless. All these manufacturers are a joke the tavern I work at goes through to many Sonys Samsungs and LG all of them are prone to major defects. Good luck but I suggest you call Samsung and tear them a new one, then the retailer then have it diagnosed before you spend another penny on Samsung hardware, the way I see it there parts already failed you once I would think twice about fixing anything major and try to get them to do it.

Yeah its a pretty crappy situation, I was hoping this tv would last me at least 2 more years, its going on about 3 1/2 years old now so the use i got out of it was defiantly not worth it. Seems like all brands are just becoming junk, its just a luck of the draw now.

I have promoted samsung for years now, i own a 46 c630 as well as 4 samsung 24's for my comp, so i was happy with the brand. I see everyone saying ill never buy a samsung again cause they has a problem but then your just going to have the same argument when the sony/lg etc lets you down.

i have searching around and i have found screenshots of other users having the same problem but no one has stated a true solution to the problem, if its the lcd then maybe ill chop it in half =p,

Some people say to check to see if things are loose inside, seems like a fun project but unlikely solution but hey its worth a try

T-con board ???? read about that seems it fixes some peoples small line issues but no this giant 5 inch bar

ill keep looking and when i tear it down which im going to do eventually ill let you know what happens

If your TV is clicking trying to come one then cycles again. This is the infamous bad capacitors illness.

I have a LV46A550P3FXZA 46" LCD and had called Samsung to schedule a free fix. (not everyone gets this but mine was around 2 years old) The repairman who spoke broken english seemed to be phishing for something else to charge me before even comming out. I reported it to Samsung and they scheduled another to come out. THEN.. I check the customer comments about this guy and he was a total crook, so they say. So I thought.. To hell with it.. I'll fix it myself. There is plenty of info about this problem. I went to Radio Shack and bought solder, solder wickup two $1.79 capacitors (1000uf 35v 105c+ radial leads) and basically not counting the solder which I didn't have any or the wick. Parts cost a blazing $3.50 and no waiting for a repairman to possibly screw me. I took alot of pictures of this extremely easy fix and could post them if anyones interested. The capacitors that where inside where 870uf 35v 105c rating. I don't know about all the crap talk that the voltage rating was too low. Seems the capacitance was too low was the real problem. Took about an hour to fix and thats making coffee too. BTW the cap #s on the board where CM867 and 881 they where easy to spot. They where the only two that had bulged tops. Now the TV reacts just like it did when it was new. BTW sometimes the TV would cycle up to 25 times before it would stay on. I'll be glad to help anyone else DIY if they want. I don't have much faith in a Class action over something as simple as this. If you want to wait years to get a few dollars are fix it now for around $4 and some of your time. -robert

So I contacted the Maine Attorney Generals Consumer Affairs office and they helped me get my lcd screen replaced, out of warranty by Best Buy. Maine has a Implied Warranty Repair Law that is basically an extended warranty on all products purchased in the state. The AG office was awesome, some pretty straight forward forms to fill out and they contact both the retailer and the manufacturer and put pressure on them to comply with the law.

Throughout all this I had a very well documented case with pictures, repair bills, original warranty (my tv was bought 6/08) and even mentioned this forum with a long list of unhappy consumers. Best Buy called the rep at the AG office and I was told to drop of the TV and they were sending it out for repair. Took about 3 weeks a little less. When I picked it up and dropped it off nobody ever asked me for a penny, I contacted management before hand to make sure I was not paying a dime. Overall I am satisfied, although the meat heads did not replace all the screws in the back. Check with your consumer affairs division in the state you live in, and if your in Maine I would seriously reconsider ever paying extra for an extended warranty.

Thought I would add my own experience with my LN52A550. This thread has been quite informative.

I had a very similar problem to the clicking and powering on and off issue that so many others have had. However my tv would eventually power on but have a garbled picture (lots of noise lines and colors). Sometimes it would be accompanied by very loud static coming from the speakers, sometimes no sound at all. it would reboot itself until it could correctly power up with proper video and sound.

When this first started happening, it would only take a couple or a few reboots before everything was fine. Eventually it could take 30 minutes for it to come up. I noticed that if I removed any hdmi connections, it would come up rather quickly to the "searching for signals" state. If I would then plug in something via hdmi it would go back to the reboot cycle.

I called Samsung and they offered to send someone out to replace the capacitors. The guy from the local shop called me the next day and came out. The capacitors were not the issue, it turned out to be the main board. He replaced the capacitors anyway.

It cost me $280 to have that replaced. Probably could have ordered it myself for cheaper and it's an easy replacement but just wanted to get it done.
I'm pretty disappointed with this tv as it is only a little over 3 years old. The picture is great, but for as much as I paid I expect it to last longer than that.

Gotta luv the info on these boards. TV started yesterday morning with the clicking while trying to turn on/off. Started doing some research on many boards and found that many have gotten a free fix. Called Samsung support and gave model & serial # and he confirmed that my model was affected. Passed me on to another person and they gave me a number for a local authorized repair shop (along with the authorization number)and the repair will be free, as long as the capacitor is the issue. But after reading post after post and looking at youtube videos I can't see it not being the issue.

Hot Tip: a bad way to try to diagnose a bad panel vs a bad t-con is to connect the right (from back side) ribbon cable to left connector on the t-con; crazy lines all over the place on the panel (turned it off after a couple seconds), and lots of Magic Smoke from the top of the right side of the panel when i put things back. Pretty sure it was a panel issue anyway, and wasn't going to replace the panel.

If anybody wants parts from a 52a550, PM me; T-con board is a little suspect at this point; but everything else is probably good (capacitors on power supply look good)

This news is making the rounds this morning, but for anybody that has or had power supply problems, Samsung just settled a class action lawsuit about it.

http://www.samsung.com/us/capacitorsettlement/

The summary is that, for 18 months after March 2, 2012 (so I guess until September 2013), Samsung will cover repairs caused by faulty capacitors. If you paid out of pocket for a repair prior to that, you'll get reimbursed up to $150. Finally, if you reported the problem to Samsung, but no longer have the TV, you'll also get some cash (I'm not entirely sure how this works).

Hopefully some good news for anybody that had a problem...

Hey Clicq!,
Just wanted to wish you a Happy New Year! I hope this new year is treating you and your family well. I'm still enjoying every minute of watching my LN40A550 everyday. Best purchase I ever made!

Hey guys, I'm evaluating my LN52A550 in light of the capacitor settlement to see if it is affected. To be honest, everything seems fine, but when turning it on it takes 13 seconds until a picture appears.

Is that amount of time normal?

Thanks!

After reading your post I timed my LN40A550 at 7 seconds. First time I've actually timed it but it seems pretty much the same now as it has been for 2+ years.
Thanks A J, I really appreciate you going out of your way to do that. I think my set has always taken the same amount of time to come up, but 13 seconds seems a little ridiculous. Maybe I'll call Samsung to see about checking out the capacitors.

That's the symptom that's described in the settlement I linked to above, so yes, they should fix it for free. You should be able to call them up and ask...

I have my a650 set that I bought 4 years ago. Still going great. The only problem I had was a color distortion problem just before the 1-year warranty was to expire. That is, the colors were all pink/yellow and other odd colors. You could still see the outlines of people in the picture but it was pretty much unwatchable. I called Samsung and they sent out a local repair tech who opened the set, took down some info, and then put my TV back together. He said that it was a bad T-con and has to order the part.

The TV was now fine so when he called the following week to come back, I cancelled the appt stating that everything was working fine. Last year, the same problem occurred but the set is now out of warranty. I opened the case up so that I could write down the information needed to get a new T-con board. Again, after putting it back together, the TV is fine.

So in both cases, it seems that one of the T-con cables work itself loose. Not sure why.

Has anyone had this problem occur and resolved it by reseating the cables?

I'm in the market to get a new TV and would like to get a Samsung but will probably get a Sharp 70" or 80".

My LN40A550 is still doing great. glad to hear about the class action though...just in case it happens.
We've been pretty happy with our TV. We moved to a bigger place last week and of course the TV looks too small in the LR now - so will have to retire it eventually to the BR, and get a new TV for the LR...

The only 'issues' we had were some VERY mild flash lighting, which i 'fixed' sort of, by playing with PQ settings...

I am in 2 minds to go again with Samsung or not... the 2012 Panasonic LCDs look pretty interesting, and I am looking at the ET5 series...(mid-level). Our Panny BD65 BR player has been very satisfying...

All in all, I respect the 550 samsung still - it has (and is) served us very well, and we def. got the money's worth I think even if something happens now, but i think it will be with us for a long time

I just started having problems with my HDMI inputs for my 46" A550. When I turn on the bluray player I get static noise through the speakers and I get static across the screen(kind of like the olden day with tv antennas where you weren't dialed in anywhere close to the channel). I tried all 3 HDMI inputs with 2 different cables and 2 different bluray players. As I start to unplug the cable there is a magic sweet spot where I get what the bluray player is supposed to be showing. I also tried both cables and blurays players on another tv and they worked just fine. All other inputs work just fine.

I did some searching and it seems to point towards the possibility of bad capacitors or control board. However I am not getting the power cycling that most are complaining about.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you diagnose these issues yourself? might want to find a certified samsung repair shop, this looks a lot like what mine did and it was a faulty panel. you can pay for the diagnosis but replacing a bad panel (if that is the issue) is not cheap. i contacted my state attorneys office and they put the pressure on best buy to replace it. might want to see what your states consumer affairs division can do to help? My tv was just about 3 years old, well out of warranty but they replaced the panel in a few weeks. they did not want to but it was covered by the Maine implied warranty and repair law. hope you figure it out.

Greetings,

Has anyone ever addressed the issue with the horizontal bar being shown on the bottom of the screen? The information seems to be there, but I'm not quite sure what is wrong with it? I haven't contacted technical support yet (as I've heard terrible things about them).

Hello all! I have a Samsung LN37A550P3FXZA. I had it in storage for a month and just got it out and on the 2nd day all the colors went wrong. All faces are red and everything is like a psychadelic film! Any help would be appreciated smile.gif

Did it look like this?

If so, I don't know what caused it, but my set did that when I first bought it. Good luck.
