MX-500 favorite channel function work with hyphens?

I'm a complete noob to universal remotes, so be kind lol.

From the MX-500 review on remotecentral:

...Configuring a Favorite Channel macro is done from the Setup Menu's [FAV] option. First select the device the macro should operate on, then choose the button on which to record. Although it's possible to enter up to 10 steps for each channel macro (are they anticipating mega-satellites?), the only buttons usable are numbers [0] through [9], [ENTER], [DISPLAY], [INFO/PAUSE], [POWER] and [SYSTEM OFF]. The commands entered are shown on the LCD; saving what's been entered is done by pressing the same macro button again.

My question is that I have basic cable (no box) and an HDTV. Though I have only basic cable, I get all the local/broadcast channels in HD through the QAM tuner in the HDTV, resulting in me having to press 6-1, 8-1, etc. to pull up the channels. Am I reading this review right, in that I wouldn't be able to have these HD channels (6-1, 8-1, etc.) programed as favorites in the MX-500 due to the hyphen?

Someone on another forum mentioned I could

just put the dash on one of the keys allowed in a FAV macro and treat the dash as another digit.

Is that possible with the MX-500? How would I do that?

The above keys can be included in a FAV macro on the mx500, so just program the DASH command to the enter, display or info/pause key. Say you do program it to the ENTER key, when programming channel 6-1 to ch macro on the mx500, you would enter in the remote 6, Enter, 1. no different if it were 6, 0, 1. Thats why I told you to treat the dash as if it were just another digit in the channel #.

You mentioned you were interested in the RF20 on Remote central, it will work the same as the mx500. So get the remote, play with and come back if you're having trouble programming it.
